Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Uhler Colombo.
Hi Betsy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sure, thank you for the opportunity! I co-founded LA Unbound dance company in 2007 as a welcoming, inclusive, and non-competitive performing company for adult recreational dancers in the Los Angeles area. For the past 16 years, we’ve been producing two shows per year featuring hundreds of dancers of all experience levels and styles, including contemporary, ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, aerial, Bollywood, burlesque, and more. In 2018, I opened Unbound Dance Studio and began offering classes for kids ages 18 months and up, as well as performance opportunities for our young dancers. In addition to hosting weekly classes for over 200 local kids in the Pasadena area, the studio is the home base for LA Unbound rehearsals, as well as studio rentals from a variety of community members. It’s an honor to provide a safe space for connection and creative expression for so many different people who all share a love of the art of dance.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, and of course Covid has been our most recent big challenge. The pandemic forced us, like many small businesses, to pivot and adapt to the changing needs of our customers and to continue providing excellent service while keeping everyone safe and healthy. We are continuing to offer outdoor dance classes for our families who feel more comfortable in an open-air setting and are lucky to have a beautiful outdoor studio space in addition to our main studio location.

We are a dance studio for kids, offering classes in ballet, hip-hop, tap, jazz, and more for ages 3 and up, plus a Dance With Me class for toddlers. In addition to dance technique, or students learn how to work together as part of a team, encourage each other, and enjoy multiple performance opportunities per year. We welcome and encourage dancers of all ages and experience levels to come to explore and nurture their passion for dancing and performing!
