Thanks for sharing your story with us Bernie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Broadline Distributing 14 years ago. We distribute Restaurant and Janitorial Supplies. I started my company after I left my previous company because they were going through a merger and I did that with the previous company I worked for. I was tired of the mergers and always wanted to have my own business. We distribute Food service packaging to kitchen supplies. We also distribute janitorial supplies that any industry uses. We sell primarily to businesses and sometimes sell to individuals. We have a warehouse in Chatsworth and inventory products for our customers. We deliver Monday – Friday.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall it has been a smooth ride except for 2008 when the recession came that was a tough year. In the restaurant business it is always up and down. For every restaurant that closes another one opens. That is why I decided to also sell janitorial supplies. Because everyone uses them.

Broadline Distributing is a small business. I am the sales rep, purchasing manager and sometimes driver to either pickup or deliver. I do have 1 driver who does a great job with the deliveries and rotating stock within our warehouse. I am most proud of being in business for 14 years. I have wonderful customers that makes me proud. What sets me apart from my competitors is that I have been in the distribution business for 30 years and I have experienced a lot during that time.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would like to either purchase another distributor that has a few employees, so I can grow larger. I also wouldn’t mind maybe merging my company with another one that is like mine.
