Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernard Sears.
Hi Bernard, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for dance but it took time to decide if that’s what I wanted to do for a living. I met Tommy The Clown. I always was a dancer but a started professionally dancing in 2002 with the icon himself at the age of 12. Being young, it still was like a hobby, so I decided to stop and put all focus into school. Three years later I told myself to get back into what I was good at and began dancing again with a group called “OFA”. Around the time “Clowning” & “Krump” was heavily influencing the world & Tommy The Clown was the reason of it. He had a documentary called “RIZE” & I told myself I can do this, seeing people I already knew mastering & creating I thought I was ready.
Honestly, it was not doing to great, I wasn’t the best at it, laughed at but never gave up. I got a call saying people was talking about how I danced, I was weak and why did OFA add me to the team. It was disappointing but I then had a setting moment when I realized that I need to study other dance styles and incorporate it into what I’m doing and critique myself. During this time I was great with technology and marketing & found an asset that I can bring to being a part of what was already established with Tommy The Clown once I got a chance to get back on his team. In 2008, I established my name and instead of just “BZ” I told myself “iDanceBZ” letting people know when you hear me you know I DANCE! As the dance style died down due to the upcoming of “jerking” I went into the lab with Tommy and a few others creating a way to attack the digital scene in 2010. We revamped the dance scene, I became one of the best dancers along with influencing a multitude of youth to do the same as I’ve done. I started creating homemade mashups that started to get millions of streams on SoundCloud along with YouTube doing numbers.
Everything started going viral and the events were sold out and well-produced. My marketing skills, dancing, producing, and the push of Tommy The Clown put myself in the position to turn this into an actual career. It’s like we found a gold mine that we weren’t looking for but GOD blessed us with this opportunity. What motivated me to get where I’m at today is some family, friends, and others downgrading my life choice being “grown” as a “clown dancer”. I was always being told “get a real job”, “he always on that computer”, “all he care about is Tommy The Clown”. It such a cliche because in reality from YouTube to marketing, promotion & Tommy The Clown I establish an income than three household family in one thanks to GOD. It kept me out of the street, away from violence and provided a reason to go back to school major in marketing. This provided me with a testimony I can inspire to the future that you can create a career with anything you put your mind to, as long as you’re consistent.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road was very rocky until I found GOD. Financially at the beginning it was not the best but I enjoyed my job because we all was pushing to be where we are now. This journey wasn’t easy but I worked very hard to be where I’m at now. Tommy truly motivated and kept me intact to not worry about any struggle and continue to do what I’m great at because it will all pay off. For example, I had to figure out where I was going to live due to the fact I didn’t want to transition to Vegas. I knew something great going to happen in a successful way. I chose to be homeless and figure it out in Los Angeles because I just couldn’t do Vegas. I basically denied a whole entire house with my mom. What that situation did was ignite my grind and get the job done due to circumstances at the time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I dance, choreograph, produce, edit, and market. I’m proud of all the moments in my career of dance. We are one the top 10 dance YouTube’s in the world, I’m verified on SoundCloud with millions of streams, Tik Tok & Instagram challenges going crazy. Connecting with major artists due to my mixes. Taking my student to Ellen & performing after going viral & cameo with superstars. Produced a record called “Swish” by Tyga & it went platinum. Creating an influence around the world with TOMMY SQUAD AKA T-SQUAD. Learning who GOD is & understanding. I always had my own individual mindset, creativity, and approach which I knew what I wanted after clearing my mind. I always stood out the bunch, I believed it was possible separating myself due to all the skills I acquired and how I used them all.
What does success mean to you?
Success is what YOU consider to be successful not in the eyes of others. A process and completion that really makes YOU happy. Completing a goal and letting that accomplishment help you spread positive energy to the next individual looking for a defined example of success in the flesh. SUCCESS of your own may not be the success of the next individual, which is why it’s important to have self care and understanding how beautiful you are within. I Thank God for all my success and accomplishments.
