Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Abiola Of Don’t Wait Create.
Benjamin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an Actor and Writer from Arlington, Texas who moved to L.A. in 2016 to pursue an acting career. I am currently a professional motion capture actor and voice actor for Ryot Studios. While pursuing my dreams I encountered many other actors and creatives on a similar journey as me, I also noticed that a lot of the talented individuals I met, didn’t have a reel to showcase their work. Prior to moving to L.A. I made comedy videos online and had a surplus of content, so coming to L.A. I continued down that path. I began to create content with other talent that I met here in the city and formed a digital production company, DON’T WAIT CREATE. In which our focus is creating digital content with the resources we have readily available and not waiting for the industry to come and find us.
Instead, we create and show those in positions of power why working with us is beneficial. Through “Don’t Wait, Create” I am able to give actors, writers and directors alike the opportunity to create high quality, reel worthy content.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think the biggest obstacle on this journey has been finding a balance between your bank account and your ideas. We all want to chase the dream, meanwhile the bills are chasing us. 100% of my projects have been self-produced, and without a big budget as most Hollywood productions are… However the motivation is in the name, we can’t wait for the funds to fall in our lap, we must go out and create regardless and put ourselves in the position to be heard and seen.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Don’t Wait Create! story. Tell us more about the business.
Don’t Wait Create is a collective of creatives dedicated to bringing art to life. We specialize in cinematography and storytelling. We provide opportunities to collaborate with creators on both sides of the camera. We write and produce original films, sketches and various content. Through “Don’t Wait, Create” we are able to give actors, writers and directors alike the opportunity to create high quality, reel worthy content.
What sets us apart is that we are for the creative, and by the creative. Everything we’ve done so far has been done without major backing and has been true to the art. Since our inception in 2019, we’ve successfully released five short films and currently working on a web series, all while providing opportunities for upcoming creatives to showcase their talent free of charge.
Our short film “The Spot Is Mine” just won 2nd place at the AT&T create-a-thon film festival. It will be screening September 14th, 2019 at the Indie Film Night Festival at The Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Our mission, vision and values are rooted in the idea that waiting for opportunities to come your way is counter productive, but actively pursuing and creating the future you want will benefit you way more. So yes “luck” may have played a role but simply because we created the luck.
