Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Gallo.
Becky, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began practicing law after graduating from law school in 1995. I was a business litigator at a prominent Los Angeles law firm. I worked very long hours, and represented numerous corporate clients in various court proceedings. In 2006, I was featured on the front page of the Los Angeles Times in an article discussing the challenges of retaining professional women in the workforce. I was also featured in Working Women magazine in 2009. By all external measures, I was a successful lawyer climbing the proverbial corporate ladder.
During my 17-year tenure as a litigator, I gave birth to 3 wonderful children. Needless to say, my life was in constant flux, trying to meet the demands of a challenging career and the growing needs of my family. In 2012, I decided to leave the practice of law behind, and spend more time at home. During this time, my family raised chickens, built a garden, adopted dogs, and traveled — things my hectic schedule previously would not allow. I also spent countless hours volunteering in my kids’ schools, and other community organizations.
Eventually, however, after giving my time and energies to the needs of my profession, my family, and my community, I realized that what I was neglecting was my own self-care. So, I experimented. It had been so long that I almost couldn’t even remember the things I liked to do! I dug deep into the journey of self-discovery. It was on this path that I discovered I had a passion for Pilates and fitness — as well as a passion for creativity. People always say that when you follow your passions and listen to your inner voice, things will magically fall into place. And for me, that is exactly what happened. It was almost as if Love Your Core was predestined for me. I opened the doors to LOVE YOUR CORE in February 2017 and haven’t looked back!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have enjoyed all aspects of having my own business, from start up to actually running the business. The startup prospect, which is likely daunting for some, was easy for me. Knowing the proper paperwork to file and the approvals to obtain, etc., was probably the easiest part, given my background. I have always been a “people person.” I love to meet people and learn their stories – where they are from, where they’ve been and where they are headed. Since I am fascinated by people’s life stories and motivations, I am a natural at dealing with clients.
My biggest challenge has probably been the salesmanship required in marketing a business. I’ve always struggled with self-promotion. In fact, I used to make my younger brother go door to door and sell my Girl Scout cookies for me! That said, I believe there’s something special about selling a product or service that you believe in and are passionate about. Since I am passionate about the benefits of Pilates and fitness, and believe in the talents of each and every one of my instructors, promotion has come much easier.
