Meet Beck Hoehn of Mighty River Wellness in Toluca Lake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beck Hoehn.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It was through a series of film industry-related injuries that peaked Beck’s interest in Acupuncture. Every time another body part broke, she would return to work fully recovered after a single treatment. These consistently successful results and a family background in medicine inspired her to pursue a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Beck went back to school and received a master’s degree with honors from Emperor’s College of Oriental Medicine, while also becoming board-certified both nationally and in the state of California. In addition, Beck is also an active member on the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM). It’s through ABORM where she pursued additional specialized training in reproductive health and fertility acupuncture and holds the distinction of being an ABORM fellow.

Beck decided to specialize in fertility and women’s health because she recognized that the market didn’t have a wide variety of choices in women’s care. Beck saw a need for more options and was determined to fill the gap.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As with starting any small business, there are certainly challenges along the way. Entering into the natural health space can be difficult because you have to retrain consumers that there is more than one way to take care of yourself and people are not always cautious about where they get their medical information from. Women’s health is a never-ending marathon because it is always changing and evolving. And there are many different ways to treat women depending on what phase of their life they are in and what their health goals are.

Mighty River Wellness was on a great track with its growth and had recently expanded to a new space when COVID hit, which became a large setback. When Beck realized MRW needed more space to grow Pre-COVID, finding a new location and a new neighborhood was a large challenge. We are so happy with where we landed in Toluca Lake. In this new space, we are able to see more patients, expand our hours, schedule talks with other members of the medical community, and run community and education programs. In response to COVID, we built out our telehealth platform so we could continue treating our patients virtually for the times when they can’t come into the office. Every day is a new challenge.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mighty River Wellness – what should we know?
At Mighty River Wellness, we are passionate about empowering women to work with their bodies in order to achieve optimal health. With our collaborative approach to creating individualized care plans, we provide acupuncture treatments, customized Chinese herbal medicine formulas and supplements, and work together on making lifestyle changes to improve your diet, exercise, and stress management.

A specialty of our natural medicine practice is developing personalized treatment plans to help women with fertility challenges, IVF support, difficult menstrual cycles, and hormonal imbalances.

I like that we have a women’s centric lense and a deep focus on women’s health. That focus has allowed us to serve an important part of the population. It has been wonderful to be able to provide support through various methods.

Beck provides comprehensive support, she is comfortable to be around and she has unique communication skills. She makes everyone feel like they are the only patient and the most important patient. You need a unique touch, like Beck’s, to be able to talk to women about these hard topics like miscarriages and their struggles with their bodies. Beck believes there is no such thing as tmi, she tells it as it is. Mighty River Wellness has a great network of referrals and partnerships with local reproductive centers. We have become an established pillar in the women’s health community in our area.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have one of the best teams in health care, and I have a great support system of family and friends which allows me to help more patients. We are a women’s health practice run by women for women.
