Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Voigt.
Becca has always been a competitive athlete, even before she found CrossFit. She grew up playing soccer then moved on to basketball, where she found her place. After gaining valuable experience on teams through high school, she received a scholarship to play forward at Menlo College. Once she graduated, she was searching for something to quench her competitive thirst when a friend invited her to participate in the first “Fight Gone Bad” charity event, a benchmark CrossFit workout. Becca trained for the event for a month at a globo gym, and then showed up in Palo Alto for Fight Gone Bad. She was hooked before she even started the workout.
Becca quickly realized she wanted to share the way CrossFit positively impacted her life with others, so in 2008, she started coaching classes at Valley CrossFit in Van Nuys. From that point on, her primary goals were to continue competing in CrossFit at the highest level, and open her own CrossFit Affiliate.
Well, it is now 2017 and Becca holds the world record for the most CrossFit Games appearances of any athlete, male or female at NINE times. And she’s not done yet…she is currently training to qualify for her TENTH trip to the Games in the coming months.
While she focuses a considerable amount of energy on her training, she, somehow, managed to achieve her dream and opened CrossFit Training Yard in August of 2014. Training Yard is a small, but well equipped facility located in Toluca Lake and caters to every level of athlete, from grandparents to fellow CrossFit Games competitors and everyone in between.
With Becca’s combination of competitive experience and her natural ability to help others achieve their own fitness goals, CrossFit Training Yard has become one of the premier CrossFit gyms in Southern California.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have faced numerous hurdles along mypath, from personal injuries to challenges with finding the ideal location for CrossFit Training Yard. While the obstacles were frequent and substantial, my drive and determination allowed me to persevere.
CrossFit Training Yard – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At CFTY, we focus on developing the TEN basic measures of fitness: cardio-respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy by executing constantly varied functional movements at high intensity.
What this really means is, in addition to helping you maximize your athletic performance, we will also help you be better prepared to tackle any daily challenges you may face – from unloading groceries to carrying your little-one down a flight of stairs. Whether you opt for group classes or private, one-on-one coaching sessions, we are confident you will reach YOUR full athletic potential, vastly increase your level of fitness, AND have fun in the process. Our training methods produce undisputed, tangible results for all levels of fitness; from children to grandparents to elite athletes, and everyone in between.
Aside from building better human beings, CFTY strives to develop a community of like-minded individuals who support, encourage, motivate, and assist one another in reaching their personal goals. In fact, the communal aspect of CrossFit is a key component of why it’s so effective.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as achieving a life balance that includes running my own, successful, business, competing at the top level in my sport, all while still allowing adequate time to spend with my family and friends.
