Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Romero.
Hi Becca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my business in October 2017 – I was just about to graduate from college, I had been in multiple internships throughout college, and I just knew that I wanted to own my own business. I actually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, and I have always felt so drawn to multiple outlets of creativity and art. I absolutely knew that I could break that stigma that choosing a creative field meant giving up my dream life, so that’s what I set out to do! From late 2017- late 2018, I would consider that major building years for my business. I was laying the foundation, learning as much as I could, and doing a ton of styled shoots I would set up with friends and couples I knew.
We all start somewhere, and the more practice you give yourself, the more progress you’ll see! 2018 was the year I shot my first wedding! I would say from 2018-2019 is when I started to see the results of my business habits I had created start to come to fruition. I set a goal to book 15 weddings in 2019 and ended up booking 22 that year! I absolutely fell in love with capturing the authenticity and originality of each wedding day I was a part of. Now, I can absolutely say with confidence that 2020 was the year I saw growth in my business. I went from making $45k in 2019 with photography to over six figures, I booked out my calendar, and I added design to my business which was always a dream of mine since I started as a designer! Now I am helping other creatives tell their brand’s stories to their audience and it is so, so rewarding!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nope, not at ALL! I am a firm believer that no success comes easily – what people see on the outside is the “overnight” success story, but what they don’t see are the years of work behind that success that turned it into what they thought was an overnight turnaround. For me personally, in the beginning it was a lot of trial and error to see what would work and connect with my audience. I didn’t start to see audience traction until I started being vulnerable about who I was and what I was all about! It’s inevitable that there will be comparison in the creative field, there will be people telling you that art isn’t going to provide a secure lifestyle, there will be a TON of resistance. For me, those things are what drove me to make sure I succeeded.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding and elopement photographer, branding designer, and creative educator! I just started my creative education side of my business this year, but that’s absolutely where my passion resides. I LOVE helping other creatives realize their own potential and help them create a brand that wholeheartedly represents them!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m extremely laid-back in all things outside of my business! I love to have a good time and adventure with my people.
