Meet Beatrice Fischel-Bock of Hutch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beatrice Fischel-Bock.

Beatrice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It was a junior year of college at George Washington University and my two original co-founders and I went abroad for six months. Our friends were moving into their first apartments and asking us for help with finding furniture. We realized that there was a real need to help people buying furniture who are not willing or able to work with a professional interior designer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s all challenging! That is probably what’s hardest. Learning to deal with the constant ups and downs of running a startup. You have to try and keep an even keel through every challenge that comes your way. Get through it and get ready for the next one.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Hutch is a platform and mobile app that mixes 3D technology with online shopping to let you virtually decorate your space. We think of it as a virtual dressing room for your home.

A lot of people know what they like but have difficulty visualizing how everything will look together and figuring out scale and sizing within their space + may not want or have the money to hire an interior designer. Hutch is a tool that allows anyone to put together their own space in the same manner as they would with their clothing to style their own outfit. Furniture and decor for your home can be very intimidating and Hutch helps solve this problem by offering a solution that is needed within the furniture, decor and e-commerce space.

What were you like growing up?
I’m pretty much obsessed with animals, so I thought I was going to be a vet until I saw my dog after surgery and realized there was blood involved. Once I got clarity on the fact that being a vet didn’t just mean meeting cute dogs and cats, I shifted my attention to my passion for design.
