Meet Barb Thompson of Silverlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barb Thompson

Hi Barb, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After ten years of starting my career in Northern California working behind the chair at a salon, I went towards San Francisco to chase my dreams of growing my business.

Few years in, I had become a Global Cutting educator for the company R + Co and started traveling for work. Joined the Oribe team on and off for New York fashion weeks over a few seasons and I felt it was time to start my own business in opening my own salon. So I went back to my home town to do so.

After the creation of my salon it ended up being the biggest stepping stone I didn’t really plan for. 5 years in and I had already started to travel every six weeks to LA to build a clientele here I ended up selling my salon and moving our family here.

Became an assistant and started all over at the age of 35. Worked for my mentor Mara Roszak for 3 years and now have my own celebrity clientele!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was bumpy of course, but I had a clear view of my destination. I feel grateful for that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Celebrity Hair Stylist.

I kind of can do most. I cut. I color. But I love hair styling the most!

I feel like I’m happy to be starting this part of my career at this part of my life. I feel that I am ready.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I feel like a cliche but it’s never too late to totally flip your own script and follow your dreams. Takes a lot of hard work, sweat, and tears. The reward is so great.
