Meet Natalie Holloway of Bala Bangles in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Holloway.

Natalie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Bala was born on a trip to Asia when my husband and I wanted a way to push ourselves while traveling and working out. We were in a yoga class in Indonesia when we realized that we could challenge ourselves if we had added resistance. We then thought of wrist/ankle weights, which of course already existed. What we realized is that we could modernize the wrist/ankle weight to bring them back in style. So we began product development right then and there.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been challenging, and we have learned a TON. We have been in business one year officially, and it has been a great learning experience. Some of our biggest struggles early on were keeping enough inventory in stock.

Overall, my biggest learning is to roll with the punches. In a brand new business, there will always be an obstacle or problem — each day. So learning to deal with that and keep moving has been key for us.

Bala Bangles – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bala is a movement company headquartered in Los Angeles. We specialize in modern fitness equipment. Our mission is to make things for you to move your body with and items that make you sweat. We launched with our hero product: Bala Bangles – wearable, modern wrist, and ankle weights.

We are most proud of our redesign of the wrist and ankle weight. We feel that we have truly brought a trend back that should have never left us! (The old school sandbag wrist weight).

Since launching, we have been featured in MoMA Design Store, Shape, Health Magazine, Vogue, Goop, US Weekly, Buzzfeed, and more. We are proud of that.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There is something extremely special about the first order arriving. After working on the product for about a year, it was like Christmas morning to get that first order delivered.
