Meet Ayani Tamar of God’s Girl/The Break up Box in Santa Clarita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayani Tamar.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
So, I started out in Los Angeles, California. I moved to Las Vegas for a bit when I was younger. I came back to Los Angeles when I was about 11 years old. I bounced around to a couple of school when I got back and in that, I experienced a lot of bullying for not being “black enough”. Oddly enough, I experienced racism when I was in Vegas and I experienced not being black enough when I came back to L.A. So, things got much better when I moved to the Valley. I started finding amazing people that actually understood me as an individual. We were all into the same things. I had the most amazing high school experience ever, but I was not the best at romantic relationships.

From the time that I was younger and even up until now, I realized that I was going from person to person trying to get them to love me romantically, and it just wasn’t working, which that’s a story in its self… I’ll give more details later if you’d like 😉 but honestly, I started realizing that something was off in me. After my last extremely painful breakup, I realized something had to change. So, I started doing some research and I got a therapist, and I quickly realized that I needed to fall in love with myself and not search for the men to fall in love with me… which is where the breakup box business was birthed from, which is a whole LONG story! On the other hand, God’s Girl is my clothing line that I created, it’s all loungewear. This is just a reminder to women again that God loves you and you are his “baby girl” hints the God’s Girl and no one can treat you any less because you are favored by God! Which I think is a dope message!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, Lord! No, it has not I pretty much gave you everything without full details in the previous section. My road has not been easy at all, I’ve had to overcome my own limitations in my mind, limitations of other people, and people pleasing. It has been difficult to execute things when you are constantly listening to someone else’s opinion and holds their opinion more valuable than your own.

Please tell us about God’s Girl/The Break up Box.
I’m most proud of just starting honestly! I have a huge problem with procrastination, so putting my own money into it and also putting all my effort and energy into has been a huge accomplishment!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Not giving up, I’m also a commercial actor and I do T.V. And film as well. Which my career has been pretty successful. It does come in waves though. I have been determined to not stop, no matter what. If I need to change a habit or hairstyle or something to get there, I will do that too!
