Austin Millz has surely surpassed (but not forgotten) his roots as one of Harlem’s hometown heroes and early renegade of its genre-bending art scene. His music is a deeply textured coalescents of soul and dancefloor euphoria, it emblifies the different phases of a night out – the afterhour bliss, a hazy pastel sunrise. It is an expansion of the sonic vocabulary with depth and boldness that can only be truly captured in the flesh. Applauded for his fusion of hip-hop and dance music, Millz has carved out a special niche between the two realms within his unique vision and has also garnered attention for his larger than life stage presence, which has captured both local and national audiences. Only watching Austin perform, as he tames every sputtering vibration with a deeply focused effortlessness, does it become clear why he has surpasses the rest.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Hasn’t been a smooth road. The music industry is always in a constant state of change, but just learning how to adapt has kept me in keen and aware of how to progress. Trying to stay ahead of the curve is something I pride myself in. From performing in front of people to connecting to other artists in the studio, it is all very important.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m an artist, music producer and a DJ. I have a passion in music and in the arts. One genre cannot describe my sound because I am constantly evolving, and ultimately it’s music that has a feeling, emotion and gets people dancing! Lately, I am known for my dance music, and the content that I capture, for example, Millz Mondays where I flip classic music and make it into my own at various locations around the world. I’m proud that I have garnered a devoted fan base around the world and I can constantly make people happy through my music. What sets me apart from others is my unique original flavor that I convey through my music.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plans for the future, I’m looking to amplify my brand and continuing to expand it globally. More shows, more festivals and more music.
