Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Laine Ferguson.
Aubrey Laine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved makeup since I was a little girl. My mom and I would frequent the local makeup counters in the mall, and I would watch all the artists at work. It always fascinated me. I went through high school, playing with makeup, and I fell in love with the art of it all. When it came time to graduate, I decided to major in liberal studies. Years go by of me working with children, and I kept coming back to makeup. I had to follow my heart. Here I am 32 years old and I’m doing it. I am a self-taught makeup artist running my own business. I absolutely love what I do!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Well no. I’ve always struggled with self-doubt, and especially in this industry. It is hard not to compare yourself to others. There has for sure been times when I wanted to give up and just switch careers altogether, but I didn’t. My passion for makeup is in my bones, and I don’t think I could stop doing this even if I tried. Years of side jobs and nannying helped me get by when work was slow. Now finally, when people ask me what I do, I proudly say I am a makeup artist.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Aubrey Laine Artistry – what should we know?
I specialize in bridal, event, tv/film and special effects makeup. My business is probably most known for my work in the bridal industry. Living in the South Bay we are so blessed its basically always wedding season, so I stay pretty busy. I love being a part of someones most special day while getting to do what I love. I take a lot of pride in my cleanliness and having a sanitary work station, and not only in my work but also in the products I use. I only work with the best quality of cruelty-free beauty and also vegan options.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am a fun, outgoing person and I love to vibe with my clients. I am easy to work with and am very detail oriented when it comes to really giving my clients what they want. I’ve always stayed true to who I am as an artist and as a person. That has been very important to my growth in this industry.
