Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley K Hernandez.
Hi Ashley K, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a little girl, I watched my mom do her makeup and she always looked stunning and I would think to myself, “When I grow up, I wanna do my makeup like my mom!” Since I was very small, my parents used to buy me kid makeup which I would use with my younger sister and do her makeup for fun. So much was my love for makeup that for my 14th birthday, my parents bought me my first high-end professional makeup. Since then, I started doing my own makeup looks and as time went by, my passion and love for makeup grew more and more. When I was in high school, I started practicing on my friends whenever they had a special occasion event they loved their makeup so much that they started recommending me to their family and friends to which resulted on having my own clients. I loved the feeling of seeing my clients happy, it’s such a rewarding feeling!
And so I realized that what started as a hobby became what I most wanted to do professionally. I contacted one of the best beauty salons in my hometown and I offered my services as a makeup artist and they gave the amazing opportunity of working with them. I loved my experience at my job I was doing bridal, photoshoots, quinceñeras, social events, etc. but my dream was going to makeup school in California (Makeup Designory School). I am also very passionate about special effects makeup, which also from a very young age caught my attention the makeup of the characters in movies of different genres such as horror, sci-fi, and action. I was trying to do special effects makeup at home, I remember practicing on my brother and my sister when I was younger and thinking how amazing makeup is and the transformations it can make, so I dreamed of one day going to school and learn it professionally. I am from a small town in South Texas and in order to fulfill my dreams and goals, I moved to California since the school I always dreamed of going to is located here and now I can say that I am very blessed to be able to attend the best makeup school in which with all my love, dedication and effort I acquired the necessary knowledge to become a professional makeup artist in beauty and special effects because it is what I love the most and what I always want to dedicate myself to forever hoping to always having a blessed future.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thank God everything has been a blessing in my life until the moment the pandemic began which brought a lot of frustration and sadness that affected both financially and emotionally. I personally lost my grandmother, but I know that from heaven she will take care of me and even if it is not in person she will always be by my side, she always supported me in my dreams and my plans just like my whole family does. I graduated from high school in 2020 and my plans were to go to school in California after graduating. However, that had to be postponed a year later, I had to get student loans so I can start going to school to continue with my dreams and goals since the pandemic really affected us. Now I can say I am very blessed following my dreams as a professional makeup artist in L.A. This career takes a lot of commitment, however, I have never seen that as a battle for me since it is my passion, I am so motivated and will never give up on my dreams! I thank my parents for all their support and sacrifices because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I am currently a recent graduate of the professional makeup school (Makeup Designory) and specialize in beauty makeup and special effects makeup. I am really proud of everything I have achieved to this day, I love bringing stories to life, with my makeup brushes and the passion for the work I do, I will make the story a reality. From a beauty look to a special effects makeup, I am committed to bring the story to life in either an event, film, music video, photoshoots, you name it! I will make the vision come true.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have always challenged myself and always stepped out of my comfort zone in order to achieve whatever dream and goal I desired to reach. I always push myself to be better and never gave up. And the effort is so worth it! I want to tell everyone to always fight for your dreams and goals and never give up with a lot of dedication and loving what you do, you will achieve your goals.
