Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Alva.
Keith started visual design at the age of 17, making websites & flyers for bands. He studied illustration at Fullerton College with a passion for printmaking & graphic design. Over the decade, Keith’s visual work gave him the privilege to work with clients such as Tidal, Converse, Jay-Z, Elliott Evan & more. With a primary focus on UX/UI, he enjoys creating interactive design while applying realism into digital products. Keith also enjoys recording music, riding mopeds & hanging with dogs.
Has it been a smooth road?
A lot of couch surfing & interning.
What are your plans for the future?
Finish a couple pending products, open an online vision tailor & visit Japan.
Let’s go backward a bit – can you tell us about the most trying time in your career?
Career – commuting from Long Beach to Beverly Hills 4 times a week for an unpaid internship. I was homeless, couch surfing & just hoped my momentum would pay off. It was exhausting and extremely difficult but after a few months, something clicked – I’ve been working consistently ever since.
Are there days when you feel like you’ve done everything you wanted to, careerwise – the “I’ve made it” kind of moments?
I think, sometimes we forget to stop & reflect on where we are and what we’ve been through. I have days where I get so frustrated because I’m not satisfied with what I’m making that day. When this happens, I take a moment to detach myself from work & location, When I was a kid, I had a vision of having my own studio where I could draw & make music all day, I’ve always followed that path and have somewhat ended up there, so I think that kid would be stoked.
