Today we’d like to introduce you to FG3.
Thanks for sharing your story with us. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am currently 21 years old and am a student-athlete at Pasadena City College. I play football there. Early January 2019 some of my teammates that were already doing music wanted me to get involved. I pulled up to the studio and the rest was history. I fell in love with the vibe instantly. Fast forward to September 2019 and I’ve dropped multiple singles and an EP including artists such as J.Star, Papi Gordo from Big Boy’s label, 1TakeQuan, and more. I have another project dropping in October that will feature other outstanding artists in LA such as Chris O’Bannon, 1TakeOcho, and more.
I’m from South Central LA. I never really had much but I’ve always had my family and that’s all I ever needed. My family came here from Mexico aspiring for a better life for me and my siblings. I am the first of my family to be born in the states. So the way I see it, I have no limitations to provide for my people and I’m coming for it all. I feel like I’m the most versatile artist in LA because I can do all types of genres from Trap to R&B to Spanish. 2019 has been a great year for me already, I’m getting a lot of love from LA to the east coast and even worldwide. 2020 can only be better.
Has it been a smooth road?
Time management and finances has always been an issue. Classes and football would take up all day from 5 am to 9 pm every day during season. Weekends I couldn’t even work because we had games and film. But I started this music thing in January so football was out of the picture. I made time to work and every penny went to my engineer and the studio. After school, go to work, take care of my baby sister, and go to the studio.
What are you most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
“I think what sets me apart from other artists, and maybe just other people in general, is my drive and level of commitment to something when I’m fully engaged or need to get something done. My life goal is to take care of my family and put my siblings in a place where they can achieve their goals and help their families succeed when that time comes. I’ve always said that if my people aren’t straight, then I’m not straight. I want to inspire my brothers and fellow peers to be the best that they can be. I’m going to school full time, doing this music stuff, working at different little jobs here and there. I’ve been driving a forklift since I was 14 at a scrapyard with my grandpa. I used to work at the McDonald’s on Manchester and Main where anything could happen any day. I did construction. I worked at LA Fitness. I’ve been working since I was a baby if i’m being honest. I could never be the guy just laying on the couch with nothing going on in his life, my parents didn’t raise me like that. I want to be a success story one day so kids in my position can say that they can do it too. Minority families with just enough money to get by while going to school and work; that’s the kid I want to inspire one day. Unfortunately, it’s not always about talent or hard work. Politics will always be in the picture whether it goes in your favor or not. So don’t burn too many bridges and rub a lot of elbows. Just be a good person with great intentions and you should be fine. Work hard, praise God, and have fun; this life is too short to not enjoy.”
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity and culture of our city. From the trenches to downtown to boujee ass beverly hills, you can find anything you’re looking for in LA. You got the beach, the city, the mountains, the parks, the celebrities; it’s just a different and more expensive lifestyle. I hate the traffic though.
