Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Janumyan.
Hi Arthur, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Arthur Janumyan. I was born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1990, just before the fall of the Soviet Union. My earliest years were shaped by hardship, limited food and water were part of everyday life.
When I was three years old, my parents made the difficult decision to leave Yerevan, Armenia and move to Moscow, Russia, in search of stability and opportunity.
I spent the next six years in Moscow, where I attended elementary school and began to understand the meaning of sacrifice and resilience through my family’s experiences. In 1999, my parents took another major risk, immigrating to the United States with only a handful of people we knew and a strong belief in a better future.
Just two days after arriving in America, my father began working in construction, laying the foundation for our new life through hard work and determination.
Growing up in three different countries and constant change has taught me three different languages, adaptability, perseverance, and deep appreciation for opportunity-values that continue to guide me today.
I was introduced to the construction industry at a young age. At just 12 years old, I began going to work with my father on weekends, during summer breaks, and on off-track school days. What started as simply helping out quickly became a hands-on learning experience that laid the foundation for my career. Being on job sites early on allowed me to learn the basics, observe experienced tradespeople, and ask questions that fueled my curiosity and understanding of the work.
As I got older, my role became more defined, and I officially started out as a helper. In this position, I learned the importance of showing up early, paying attention, and doing whatever was needed to keep a job moving forward. I assisted with daily tasks such as material handling, site preparation, and cleanup, while continuing to learn by watching and asking questions. These early years instilled a strong work ethic and gave me a clear understanding of how job sites operate and how teamwork plays a critical role in successful projects.
As I was attending college and university, I continued working for my father on a part-time basis as I balanced school and work while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in business accounting. During this time, I also held seasonal positions at Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts and Express. Although these roles were outside of construction, they helped me develop valuable skills such as customer service, communication, time management, and professionalism. These are skills that later translated directly into working with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
After earning my bachelor’s degree in business accounting, I committed myself fully to the construction industry. I went knee-deep into expanding my knowledge by researching building codes and industry standards and by asking more in-depth questions on job sites. I made it a priority to learn from a wide range of subcontractors, to become well-rounded and better understand how each trade contributes to the success of a project.
After years of hands-on experience and continued learning, I decided to take the next major step in my career by applying for the Class B General Contractor license. In 2019, I passed the California Board exam and officially began my journey as a licensed general contractor. It was a proud moment not only for me, but for my entire family. This was a milestone that reflected years of hard work, dedication, and support.
Today, I continue to build on that foundation by combining practical field experience with business and accounting knowledge, always striving to deliver quality work and grow within the industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a construction company isn’t just about concrete, wood, and permits, it is about carrying weight most people never see.
When I first started, I wasn’t just becoming a business owner. I was becoming a father. Two life-changing roles at the same time. One demanded long days, risk, and patience. The other demanded presence, stability, and love. Balancing the two felt like building a house while standing on unfinished ground.
In the early days, nobody knew my name. No reputation. No long list of referrals. Just belief in my work and the responsibility to provide for my family. I remember putting up a simple ad on a job site, hoping it would lead to something, anything. Then the phone started ringing.
Those calls took me all over the valley. One day it was an ADU in a backyard, next it was a house addition miles away. Long drives, early mornings, late nights. Each project was more than a job; it was a chance to prove myself. Every foundation poured, every wall framed, every detail finished mattered, because my family depended on it.
Most of my work didn’t come from flashy marketing. It came from word of mouth, people talking about the quality, the honesty, and the care I put into every build. One client told another. Then another. Slowly, the company started to grow.
Now social media plays a role too, but that brings its own challenge. After full days on job sites and evenings with my family, finding time to post content isn’t easy. People see finished projects online, but they don’t always see the planning, the problem-solving, the setbacks, or the pride behind the work. I’m learning to share that story better, not to brag, but to show what truly goes into building homes and building a business from the ground up.
This journey hasn’t been easy. There have been obstacles, sacrifices, and moments of doubt. But every challenge has shaped me, not just as a contractor, but as a husband, a father, and provider. I’m building more than structures. I’m building a future for my family, one project at a time.
And just like construction, growth takes time, but when the foundation is strong, everything built on top of it lasts.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Niko’s Construction Pros Inc?
Niko’s Construction Pros Inc. is a family-driven construction company named after my son, Nicholas, which reflects the personal pride and responsibility I put into everything we build. We specialize in new construction, ADUs, additions, and full remodels, everything house-related from the ground up.
We serve the entire Valley, ranging from Encino all the way to Monrovia. In 2025, we expanded our work into Altadena, where we began helping families rebuild their homes after devastating fires. Being able to support homeowners during such a critical time is something that truly defines our purpose as a company.
What sets us apart is how we think ahead during every phase of construction. In the rough stages, we already visualize the finished product, making intentional decisions early on to ensure the final result looks and functions exactly as it should. We treat every build as if it were our own home, and I personally put myself in the homeowner’s shoes to understand how each remodel or build will benefit them, whether it’s a rental property or a family home.
We work exclusively with high-quality subcontractors who show up when needed and perform to the highest standards. We also prioritize strong relationships with inspectors, asking questions and building mutual trust to ensure smooth, transparent projects. Just as important, we earn and protect the trust of our clients through honesty, communication, and follow-through.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of my team and the level of respect, integrity, and dignity we bring to every job. Trust is the foundation of our company, and it’s something we focus on above all else in every relationship we build.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
YouTube has been extremely helpful for me, especially for watching tutorials and finding answers to construction-related questions. I also frequently use Google as a search engine to quickly research and solve problems as they come up.
As far as books go, unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to read, but I have started reading a book by Patrick Bet-David, titled Choose Your Enemies Wisely, which I’ve found motivating and insightful.
This ties into the fact that I’m a regular listener of the PBD Podcast and a follower of Patrick Bet-David. I also listen to a variety of podcasts that feature entrepreneurs, as I enjoy learning from their experiences, mindsets, and approaches to business and life.
