Meet Antonio Gonzalez of Mariscos Corona in Van Nuys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Gonzalez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Antonio. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a Latino with thirty years of culinary arts experience, I have always enjoyed making meals that remind people of home, food that provides comfort like mom or abuelita used to make. Coming up in a Mexican household really made me appreciate family gatherings. When family comes together food must always be present. when I started building my company I wanted to make sure that it would be a place where family gathers and they can make new memories and feel at home all while incorporating the unique flavors of my hometown, Jalostotitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. Culinary arts has always been a huge passion of mine. Nothing makes me happier than bringing smiles to people’s faces when they take that first bite into their food.

Mariscos Corona is a combination of my two passions: my drive to bring Jalisco’s unique flavors to your table, and bringing families together with great food. My love for food has provided me with the opportunity to bring my passion into a business venture that lets me provided what I am passionate about.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many obstacles along the way. Entrepreneurship exhibits many challenges; you sacrifice a lot of families, and free time to build your business, which isn’t always fair for everyone involved.

There is one story I’d like to share where I really had to apply everything I had. In 2007, the recession hit, that was six years after Mariscos Corona opened their doors. I was told it was the best if I closed my business, I refused to believe that, I continued to go to work every day from opening to closing. The team’s hard work, dedication, and determination pulled us through the recession. After overcoming such a huge obstacle I knew we could overcome any challenge. This has been the single most important and painful lesson I have learned the most from. This is also a great reminder to never give up on your dreams.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mariscos Corona – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a Mexican Seafood restaurant in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, family-owned and operated for twenty years. We specialize in Authentic Mexican seafood, incorporating the unique flavors of Jalisco, Mexico. We have a wide variety of options you’ll love from traditional Mexican food to fresh mariscos. We are well known for having the freshest ingredients that you can taste in each bite.

My proudest moments are when guests compliment the dish I’ve prepared specially for them and just their expression after their first bite is everything. The quality of our delicious fresh foods, unique flavors and family feel atmosphere is what really sets us apart from the rest.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking to expand and to provide different city’s the Mariscos Corona experience; which is all about amazing food and building meaningful memories. With being a family operated business, my two sons and daughter have been heavily involved and soon it’ll be time to pass down the business to the next generation. They have already done a great job with our social media presence, please feel free to check us out to keep up with everything Mariscos Corona.
