Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette V. Cardenas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a native Angeleno born and raised in the South Bay, I recall my mother had signed me up for activity after activity – from girl scouts, dance, and music to martial arts and sports – I was quite the busy kid. There’s no doubt that the variety at such a young age birthed my interest for having my attention and hands on everything.
In college, I studied consumer sciences and marketing. I also took on internships with lifestyle publications while working for fashion companies throughout. Upon graduating, the combination of the three shaped me for what was ahead…. a wearer of many hats. I had the opportunity to work with influential fashion brands contributing to their rapid growth and recognition through production, account management, e-commerce, public relations, and journalism.
Eventually, I decided to explore beyond the fashion world. I found myself at artist studios and creative agencies managing projects. I really enjoyed being around all the creativity but this was shorter lived than I anticipated. Somehow I ended up in advertising on phenomenal campaigns but working ungodly hours – for something I wasn’t passionate enough about made me wise up to work/life balance. At this point, a pivot was absolutely necessary toward finding what that looked like for me. Autonomy was one non-negotiable that came to mind while travel, culture, and experiences began to present itself more and more.
Flash forward to 2018 where I’ve been on my own for a handful of years now and freelancing like mad! The Underground Museum, Grand Park DTLA, Scaling Retail, MOCA, and others of the like are whom I have the honor and privilege to keep productive synergy with. Thankfully, my culture consultancy, social.experiment, stays busy with conversation and collaboration – particularly for experiential activations, elevated events, and brand ambassadorship. Another exciting bit up my sleeve is a culture immersion series, which are curated trips blending art, architecture, history, design, gastronomy, wellness, and yoga. First stop: Mexico City in autumn.
All in all, I’m thrilled to be leading a modern renaissance life driven by genuine interactions, exchanges of ideas, collective aspirations, and access to moments that lead to meaningful connections. Cultural alchemy, it’s what I do!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not at all, quite bumpy to be honest. And while there have certainly been struggles I prefer to leave them in the past where they belong. Instead, I’d much rather say it’s been a beautiful struggle as it’s allowed me to develop my own sense of GRIT: grace, resilience, intellect, and truth.
