Meet Anthony Smith

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Smith. Anthony was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Kay Soul.

Anthony , can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
originally started making music in the late 90s. Some of my biggest influences were Timbaland, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and more. I quickly noticed that I had a talent for music production and began to pursue it more consistently. But as many of us do, I put it off to pursue a more stable life. However, that didn’t work, and I decided to go back to my first love of music. I have had the pleasure to work with different artists around the country and hear some music I produced on the radio. I believe that the true success for me musically is still on the horizon, and working with Kay is an example.

Please tell us more about your brand, Equally Clothed
I really don’t have a brand name. I went from One Love to Heat to Recomp and just settled there. I also have done work under the name A. Smith. I hope to settle this dispute of my soul very soon. What separates me from other producers is that my goal is to sound different. I want to use all of the current sounds and sonics in an innovative and disruptive way. When you hear one of my tracks, you won’t be able to say it sounds like something you heard somewhere else. There is nothing like it.

So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Kay Soul and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Kay.
Kay is a client turned friend turned sister. She and I are at the point where we can say we go way back. We first connected from a website called Reverbnation. At the time, I was getting back into music, messaging hundreds of people every day about listening to my production. I got a few responses here and there, one of them was from Kay.

We started talking online, and there was an instant vibe. We met up at a studio not too long after and the rest is history in the making.

Partly because of how dope of an artist Kay is. She will hear songs that sonically have nothing to do with each other and find a way to pull them together musically in a way that makes sense. That is a gift very few people have. On top of that, she writes From her soul. From her experiences, good, bad, or indifferent. Her transparency and vulnerability are why she’s always in a better place as an artist than she was the day before.

She is an artist that a producer and a fan can grow with. When you listen to her songs, they become markers in your life. And on top of it all, she is a super dope person.
