Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Hart.
Anthony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I remember starting out when I was a kid. I used to always bug my dad to give me a roll of film and his 35mm Minolta camera just so I could go take pictures of random things around the house. Eventually, I graduated to a small digital point and shoot and would take thousands of pictures of various things on family trips and such.
By the time I could afford a real camera, I was in my early 20’s. While a part of a grassroots racing team, I realized we did not have anything other than generic cell phone pictures to visually tell our weekend stories. So I self-labeled myself as our team photographer and took as many pictures as I could between sessions and prepping cars. After a few events, enough people had convinced me that I was pretty good at taking pictures.
I took my new found motivation and spent countless hours (literally countless lol) watching videos, reading blogs, all to learn everything I could to take my new found hobby and turn it into a job. I started going to free portrait photography meetups, car events, sporting events, cool landscapes, anything I could do to build a portfolio.
In light of recent events, I am hoping to continue down a positive path and make the job to being a full-time photographer. I am really the most happy when I have my camera in my hands. I enjoy taking on new challenges in all aspects of the art!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road. I have had my ups and downs trying to fit into what other people thought. I had a recent moment of clarity and reminded myself that photography is an art, not a mold. So I adjusted my mindset and continue to push towards my passion.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Shutter Dynamic story. Tell us more about the business.
So my company, The Shutter Dynamic, is a two-part operation. The majority of my work (Portraits, Landscapes, Food, Products) falls under the “Shutter Dynamic” name. The other facets of my work (Racing, Action, and Sports) fall under my “Apex Hunter Media” brand.
From an early date, I was told that photographers can only pick one genre and that is what they do. I do not believe in that. I believe photographers are masters of manipulating light. Once you understand light, you can shoot whatever you enjoy, and there is no limit.
I am proud that I have been able to accomplish such a wide spectrum of things. I have had success in portraiture, product, as well as race and action photography. I believe I can accomplish anything. New challenges are learning moments, and you should never stop learning.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has been an interesting part of my life. I met my race team owner by wearing a racing shirt at a bbq restaurant, which has led me down this entire path of success. He saw me sitting across the bar from him, and in a lull in the conversation, he asked me very simply, “Oh, do you like racing?” and the rest is history.
