Meet Annie Inigue of ANSTRS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Inigue.

Annie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in elementary around 3rd grade… My teacher would do a lot of fun artistic projects in class. She noticed my artistic skills and signed me up for a non-drugs contest at the local sheriff’s department. I won 2nd place. After 3rd grade, I didn’t really draw so much. I would just doodle on the side of all my school work.

Most of the time I would draw an eight overlapping itself non stop. I continued to doodle all over papers for a long time throughout middle school and high school. I always carried a sketchbook and would draw weird creatures. It wasn’t until I had a traumatic life experience that got me really focused on my art.

From just doodling on assignments to actually taking drawing a bit more serious. This time my art would help me express/ease my pain. My small circle of friends and family have always complimented my art and believed in so much. They have helped me participate in multiple art galleries and shows. They are the reason why I take this so seriously and strive to expand my gift.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t; depression does a lot to your mentality, especially as a child. It doesn’t make you see the daylight. So fighting my depression was the hardest thing. It stopped me from doing so much more at an earlier age.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the ANSTRS story. Tell us more about the business.
I go by Anstrs. Painting is what I specialize in. I am known for acrylic and mostly cartoon images. I am most proud of getting myself more known to the public and getting my self out of my comfort zone. What sets me apart from others is the messages behind my paintings. Most of them speak about the society we live in, the sadness we all carry and most importantly love.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Bad luck has brought me so many ideas and creativity in my paintings. It is a way I express myself and vent. So I’m thankful for the bad. But now as I get older and share my artwork, I see the good luck it’s has brought into my life. The old me would have never imagined myself in art galleries and collabing with people. Look, it even brought this interview with VogageLA.
