Today we’d like to introduce you to Annabel Maw
Hi Annabel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2016, I was lost and living in the hustle and bustle of the San Francisco Bay Area. A friend introduced me to my first yoga class, and it was like a breath of fresh air.
I wasn’t a natural athlete and was adjusted many times during that first class (even in Savasana!). Even though the physical part of class was challenging, I loved the breath, the motivational words by the instructor, the energy of the other students, and more. Something about it made me fall in love immediately. I left feeling amazing and with a sense of calm in my hectic mind.
Eventually, I started practicing the postures daily and later got into the spirituality and philosophy side of yoga. Yoga became my everything, and it helped me change nearly all aspects of my life, including quitting alcohol.
I knew I had to share this magic. Seeing how yoga transformed my life, I wanted to pass it on to others. So, I did an online 200-hour training during the pandemic, then got a 300-hour certification in 2023.
From there, I wanted to take it a step further and created Annabel Maw Yoga with the mission to bring yoga out of the studio and into unique spots in LA. I love a good studio class, but thought it would be fun to go around town and do yoga in different locations. That’s why we host pop-up classes in unique spots around LA!
Annabel Maw Yoga is more than just yoga. It’s about creating a community and inspiring people to find their own peace and power. There is no judgment in the classes, no perfect posture, and no expectations. We flow together and embrace where we are in the moment.
We often partner with other wellness practitioners, such as sound healers, taro card readers, artists, and more. We also work with sponsors to provide goodies to our event guests!
Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or new to the mat, join us for one of our classes, and let’s find your zen together!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a business from scratch has challenges, especially in a competitive city like LA. Finding the perfect pop-up locations, juggling teaching with business admin and a day job, and building a community has been a learning curve. This is a slow process that I plan to work on for many years. I’m in no rush to grow it ‘fast’; I want to nurture it and make it something amazing.
We’ve been impressed with Annabel Maw Yoga, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
