Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Sophia Moad.
Anna Sophia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in LA about nine years ago.
I wanted to be in the arts my whole life. I had been dancing and acting in musicals, plays, and a variety of dance shows since the age of three in Sacramento, CA.
When I turned 18, I knew I had to get to LA! I auditioned for an agency in Vegas called DDO AND got signed in LA and Vegas. Within six months, I booked my first tour in China and the train never stopped rolling. I’ve danced for amazing arts and brands such as Snoop Dogg, Tyga, French Montana, MC LYTE, Kelly Rowland, and Nike.
Around 23, I decided as much as I loved dance I wanted to focus more on my acting. I started taking class with John Kirby and got a theatrical and commercial agent!
In 2016, I got to merge my two loves and booked a role on the yahoo series Sin City Saints. I thought wow I would love to always be able to merge my two passions and maybe I could truly do both!
Fast forward to present today I get to audition, book, and achieve all my acting gig and I am still dancing four times a week at a studio I run in Westwood called pacific arts and dance studio. It’s an amazing dream come true to still be creative w dance and inspire young kids and adults and have the flexibility to do my acting.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I honestly don’t think anyone can ever say being in entertainment is smooth sailing…
I mean there were many days I ate peanut butter and jelly, tuna, and black bean burritos for like weeks 😉 that wasn’t by choice or a fun diet… it’s because I was broke and an artist. I’d make lumps of money per national commercial or tour and then burn through it. I was young, I was traveling; and I thought jobs would just always flow like there wasn’t going to be up and downs.
I had beater cars, and roommates, and all that jazz until 21. That’s when I buckled down. I learned how to save, invest, and grow my profits. It’s been six years I drive a sports car that’s paid off, I have lived in a small house I’ve rented BY MYSELF FOR SIX YEARS and I’ve never been in debt since!
I think it’s all about perspective and knowing that there’s going to always be ups and downs, saving for rainy days, and always being optimistic. I wake up every day and tell myself today is going to be awesome and the best is yet to come!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am my company! Yes, I have agents and a manager. But essentially I am MY COMPANY!
My dance privates are all word of mouth! It’s how I pay for my life in between acting jobs and how I don’t get in a debt pit if I am “Not booking” jobs left and right.
My dance studio has two danced competition teams and I teach four days a week. I am the face of it! I have this job because I’m great w people and because all the training I did as a kid and young adult I know have the privilege to teach others,
My acting is my company! It’s my name on the IMDb, it’s my name on my website, it’s me that give the 15% to my managers and against when I book a job.
I think what sets me apart from others is my attitude. No job is to big or to small for me! I wake up the same for a 25,000 paycheck and I do for 65$ private. I just love being an artist. I love being able to create things that people will feel something from. Whether I am dancing or acting or modeling or whatever I just am happy to do what I love!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really think of it as luck honestly. I am super into Jesus! I know everything great or not so great all serves a place in my story. I know there will be victories and there will be setbacks in my journey.
I think everything awesome that happens in my life is a gift. I am truly thankful for it and anyway that I can help others just helps brings even more blessings into my life.
