Meet Anna Kozaki of Star Sky Granola in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Kozaki.

Anna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from a pastry school in Japan where I learned traditional French and Japanese pastries and bread. Then I worked for several pastry shops in Canada, Japan, and Singapore. I opened my own pastry shop in Macau in 2008 making mainly custom-made cakes and cookies for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. I relocated my shop to Tokyo in 2013 and made mainly decorated cookies for weddings, corporate gifts, and parties. I moved to Los Angeles and started STAR SKY GRANOLA in 2017. The main reason was that I couldn’t find cereals or granolas that have a minimum amount of sugar and minimally processed ingredients at stores. I wanted to create granola that I would want to eat every day.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was definitely not a smooth road. I’ve had many struggles since I moved to Los Angeles in both my business and personal life. Running a shop on a small scale is not easy especially financially and physically. Starting a business is not that hard but maintaining it is hard, I think. I always feel like I’m running a marathon. I also have to sacrifice personal life to keep the business going but I love what I’m doing now. It always gives me excitement and satisfaction. Life with a smooth road is boring.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
STAR SKY GRANOLA is a granola company which sells organic, vegan, and gluten-free granolas without refined sugar, salt, or artificial additives. Our granolas are also very low in sugar and some of the varieties have no added sugar or oil at all to satisfy all kinds of customers. We are at Torrance Farmers Market, South Pasadena Farmers Market, and Mar Vista Farmers Market. Our Granolas are also sold at stores like Erewhon Market.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel that Los Angeles is a great place to start businesses because it’s has a wide variety of people and a big population.
