Meet Anja Christy of Belly Dance Anytime in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anja Christy.

Anja, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I created a business from my childhood passion….belly dance! I am a professional belly dancer, instructor/choreographer and nationally acclaimed costume designer. As a teacher, it’s my passion to introduce this dance form to non-dancers.

I took my first Belly dance class at age 7 and I was hooked.

My career as a belly dancer has spanned decades….and counting.

Highlights include:

Designing belly dance costumes for dancers, nationally and internationally since 1987.

Belly dancing full time in the 1990’s at LA’s top Greek and Persian restaurants/nightclubs.

Directing & choreographing Anja’s Court, one of LA’s first award-winning student performing groups, Founded in 2001.

Anja’s Court: winners of the Belly Dancer of the Universe Group Championship title in 2006.

​I currently offer Belly Dance-4-Fitness Classes in Granada Hills, Oxnard (Channel Islands Harbor) and Ventura.

I am passionate about health and fitness and I have created a program for women: Belly Boot Camp is an online diet, dance-4-fitness program. This now included online belly dance-4-fitness classes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a self-employed Belly Dancer. Need I say more?

In the 1990’s I made a living Belly Dancing- clubs and parties.

From 2001- I made a living teaching belly dance.

Please tell us about Belly Dance Anytime.
As a belly dancer- I dance weekly at The Greek at the Harbor in Ventura which I enjoy.

But, the best part of my career is teaching beginning dance students!

As an instructor- my classes are high energy and fun for dancers/students of all levels. I LOVE teaching.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I started belly dancing when I was 7 years old.

A neighbor taught all the neighborhood girls to belly dance….and I was hooked!
