Meet Dr. Anita Wang of Wellness, Longevity and Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Anita Wang.

Hi Dr. Wang, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am passionate about helping people find “true optimal health” — feeling well and full of energy and looking youthful head to toe — in a holistic way. It all started 30 years ago in the ER where I am a board-certified emergency medical doctor. I love saving lives. But sadly, the cases I see today are less from trauma and injuries and more from chronic disease – diabetes, seizures, heart failure, stroke, respiratory infections. I was heartbroken when one time I resuscitated a patient suffering from decades of chronic illness — and instead of being filled with relief, he asked why I had saved his life, which he felt was not worth saving.

Thus sparked my journey to help people before they would ever need my critical care in the ER. Since 2012, my private practice named Wellness, Longevity, and Aesthetics, allows me to tap into the best of Functional Medicine (holistic, whole body, preventive wellness) and western medicine (treatment for acute illness). Not only do I help individuals gain energy and rid their “mystery ailments”, but I also have non-invasive treatments for all over skin tightening, muscle growth, and leaking and intimate health — to improve their quality of life both inside and out.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle as a medical doctor practicing functional medicine is educating people that they don’t have to live with their mystery ailments. Many patients nearly give up when their doctors say, “you’re just getting older” or “let me prescribe you something”. There are natural, affordable solutions, and they doesn’t involve toxic prescriptions or invasive procedures. This is why when I’m not in the office, I also love to share the message of integrative medicine and my special personalized, whole body, holistic MD approach

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wellness, Longevity and Aesthetics?
At Wellness, Longevity and Aesthetics, I help individuals look and feel their best, using natural, minimally-invasive solutions. Unlike western medicine standards, my patients are not just free of disease; they are also free of any other discomforts and full of energy because I show them how to optimize their unique body’s cellular function — through testing, deep analysis, guidance, and rebalancing of micronutrients/gut/hormones. When cells work optimally, it radiates out to immunity, brain function, weight, sleep, mood, and skin. My Laguna Beach wellness boutique is all about personalized care. More so than any conventional MD, I collect detailed information on family health history and current lifestyle routines to determine one’s “disease pathways”.

A “disease pathway” identifies which diseases you are most likely to be afflicted by without any other changes in lifestyle choices. Once identified, we work to prevent disease, especially these in particular. As a solo practitioner, I’ve found that listening thoughtfully and addressing patients’ concerns has been the key to their success and mine in healing. Patient-favorite services: – Wellness Assessments and Rebalancing for Energy, Weight – Non-invasive facial skin tightening and body contouring with Exilis – Non-invasive intimate health and bladder control with Emsella – Non-invasive muscular strength building with Emsculpt

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I knew I wanted to be a doctor from when I was eight years old. In my hometown of Carbondale, Illinois, I remember seeing a sign that read “WE NEED DOCTORS.” I wanted to answer the call by becoming a surgeon and caring for my community as the town family doctor. Growing up in the midwest with my younger brother, I couldn’t wait to reach my goal of becoming an ER doctor. I was so focused that I entered medical school at age 17 before even graduating high school! After medical school, I still felt I could do more to help others and save lives. In 2002, I joined Doctors without Borders to deal with China’s outbreak of HIV, street children, and SARS epidemic for three years.

It’s also why I joined the first AIDS Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles raising funds and AIDS awareness. I fell in love with cycling, riding across America and promoting health, so decided to ride around the world for Keshet, another international non-profit that provides services for individuals with disabilities. Helping all members of our global community — especially those that need it the most through healing, education, and service — has always been an important part of living my life fully. When I’m not taking care of patients or volunteering, I also enjoy spending time taking care of my twin boys, my vibrant 90 years old mom, husband, and two dogs!
