Meet Anissa Ramirez of Lashes With HappyNiss in La Mirada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anissa Ramirez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Anissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m 22 years old, I have been a licensed cosmetologist going on four years. Shortly after getting my license, I started applying for receptionist jobs at every salon possible, I just wanted to get my foot in the door. I get a call back from a salon but it wasn’t a hair salon it was a lash studio! I had accidentally applied to a lash studio but I still took the interview because why not. In my interview, they convinced me to be a lash technician so I gave it a try and little did I know that decision was going to change my life. I discovered my passion for lashes! I got so caught up in lashes I unfortunately put hair on the back burner. Two years into working for this lash company I was no longer happy. The working environment was causing me major anxiety and stress that’s when I decided I needed a change. I made the biggest decision and decided to opened up my own lash studio. I was only 20 years old at the time and had no idea what I was doing but I knew I was a hard worker and very motivated. I had over 40 clients follow me to my new business! I was so grateful because they kept me afloat during my first few months in business. Business grew rapidly, my anxiety attacks were little to none, and I was make 3x-4x more a month! However I still didn’t feel complete, I felt like something was missing and that’s when I decided I need to bring hair back into my life. I started working at Downtown Leche in DTLA doing hair two days a week and my life was finally complete. I have a burning passion for both lashes and hair and I need both in my life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Just sleepless nights and long hours! Lol. Starting a business specially at a very young age does not come with smooth roads that’s for sure. I didn’t encounter anything major but it was just more of a learning curve. Being a business owner you wear all the hats. I knew my skill and craft being a lash technician but now I had to learn how to run a business legally, financially, etc. My first year of business I was working seven days a week between my lash studio and the hair salon, I was so motivated to make this work there was no stopping me lol.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lashes With HappyNiss – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
So my business is called Lashes With HappyNiss and the services I offer are lash extensions and body sculpting which is my newest service. Lash extensions is definitely what I’m most known for, I’ve been doing it for four years now. Body sculpting is my newest craft and I’ve been doing that for six months. Getting into health and the body has been so refreshing and fun for me. Lastly, I do hair at this cool private loft salon in DTLA called Downtown Leche and I’ve been doing that for two years. I do a lot of blonding such as balayage, highlights, platinums, and some cool vivid colors. I think what sets me apart from others is that I do all 3 of these things ahaha.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans are to expand. I want to get a bigger place where I can start hiring employees to help run my lash studio. Once that’s all nice and running, I’m hoping that will give me the ability to focus on hair a little more.
