Meet Ani Papazyan of Therapeutic Effect Plus in Tarzana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ani Papazyan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a licensed massage therapist, nutritionist, certified lifestyle educator, and certified personal trainer. I enthusiastically educate my clients regarding nutrition, healthy eating, lifestyle choices, and supplementation.

My initial steps were in 1995, when I started my journey in massage field with chiropractors and other healthcare professionals. With the course of time my experience gave me a new milestone by becoming Janet Jackson’s massage therapist during “Velvet Rope” World Tour in 1998-1999. Since that time I have been working with professional and amateur athletes, dancers, and the general population by helping them recover from injuries, surgery, ailments, and the stressors of daily life.

My specialty is pain relief medical massage. I believe that no one should learn to live with pain and I guarantee in most cases to take care of pain in 3-4 sessions.

Has it been a smooth road?
When you go to school you want to be really good at what you do and you think that when you are really good people would come to you. Most schools don’t teach you business skills, marketing, strategic thinking.

After watching several wonderful massage therapists go out of business I realized that I needed to learn marketing skills, learn how to differentiate myself from other therapists.

Have to say that it hasn’t been easy but definitely a fun journey.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Therapeutic Effect Plus story. Tell us more about the business.
Therapeutic Effect Plus is a wellness center that offers an integrative approach to your health, specializing in pain relief medical massage & science based nutrition.

Pain relief is what I’m known for, I guarantee that in 3-4 sessions I will eliminate 50-80% of your pain if not 100%

Since I’m also a functional nutritionist that incorporates blood chemistry analysis and Korean Constitutional Medicine allows me to find the root cause of the client’s complaint and personalize the treatment protocol for that specific client to achieve fast & sustainable results.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Wish I could say that I see bright future for my industry but I can’t. For the past few years the state regulatory changes and the lack of required continuing education will reflect the quality of therapist available, the $20 an hour massage places that’s been popping on every corner doesn’t scream quality, doesn’t give our industry the respect that it deserves.

I come from a former USSR, where massage was a part of mainstream medicine. Most medical doctors in the US will refer a client to a chiropractor or a Physical Therapist but not to a massage therapist.

Most of the clients I get are people that already have been to a chiropractor, to a physical therapist or a sports medicine doctor without any sustainable results.
