Meet Angineh Aghamalian of SkinCode L.A. in Downtown / Koreatown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angineh Aghamalian.

Angineh Aghamalian is the Co-founder of MediMe, through which she manages Skin Code LA – A Premiere and Exclusive L.A. based medical cosmetic services and medspa.

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born into a family of entrepreneurs, and it has always been a dream of mine to run my own business – specifically in the medical aesthetics industry. I had worked in the beauty industry for over a decade before I started my management company, MediMe. I essentially worked my way up, starting at the front desk and gradually transitioning into management, learning the ways of the trade through a combination of practical experience and education.

I earned my cosmetologist license before I finished college, and when I was in the process of finishing college, I was already working full time on Skin Code LA. Today, I am responsible for all operations as well as ensuring that the team meets the highest standards of quality and patient care.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to success takes a lot of hard work, patience, persistence – and a little bit of luck. In my experience, the obstacles and challenges I’ve come across were necessary barriers towards success because I have learned from them all.

Among the many struggles I’ve faced since opening up my business, the biggest one has by far been the most recent one: COVID-19. We all know that people and businesses across the globe have suffered greatly, and it has been a big challenge for me as well. Because we are a medical spa, we have been allowed to be open from day one of the pandemic, but we chose to stay closed for a long time for everyone’s safety. I’m all about doing things the right way, and I didn’t want to jeopardize my employees or clients by opening too soon. We didn’t open our doors until we had thorough safety procedures in place.

I mentioned that I worked full time while finishing college. That was challenging too – balancing my work-school-life. And then, during that time, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, which was a devastating blow to my entire family. But despite the adversity – or maybe because of it – I have grown stronger.

This August, I will complete my degree at Pepperdine University, and I’m preparing for grad school next year. All while running Skin Code LA.

What sets Skin Code LA apart from other medical spas?
One thing that I am extremely proud of is the commitment to providing the best, highest quality of service possible. I don’t believe in cutting corners. I always make sure we have the best, cutting-edge technology and high-quality products. I want our clients to get the ‘small spa’ feel – but with big spa professionalism and equipment.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc.?
There are a lot of exciting developments happening in the beauty industry at the moment. Over the past few years, I have seen an increase in focus on beautiful skin – and a “natural glow” is definitely a trend. One I believe has come to stay. In fact, that is exactly what we believe in at Skin Code LA. Our motto is “Unlock Your Best You” – because we are all beautiful, and all we do is help enhance that. We specialize in PRP + microneedling, and what’s so cool about this type of treatment is that your body is providing the material you need – your own plasma. We just help you get it in concentrated form.
