Meet Angie Ortiz of Rambler Handcrafted in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Ortiz.

Angie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started sewing at a young age when I spent time with my grandmother as she tailored her clothing. I became intrigued by all the varying shades of pink fabric and the attention to detail that was put into each garment. I went on to learn apparel design in depth at my university. I took a course where I worked with leather and fell in love with accessory design. Colors, creativity, self-expression, my grandmother, and my studies; I think I’ve learned something new about why I love my work. It’s how I draw inspiration to design my pieces. I am fortunate enough to have known at a young age that my business would involve these elements. It came naturally. I am young and I am writing my story every day.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The struggle is real with any business. Rambler Handcrafted is currently focused on building brand awareness. Weekends are filled with craft fairs and pop-ups which attract all sorts of customers throughout the year. Working long hours can be exhausting. Staying balanced–practicing yoga, eating well, and another lifestyle choices–keeps me at my peak. Maintaining this belief system and my natural passion for Rambler Handcrafted help me deal with any issues that arise throughout the day, week, etc.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rambler Handcrafted story. Tell us more about the business.
I was not impressed with all the leather products I came across. I just knew I was able to make a superior product with my background in design and construction. I chose minimalist creations that serve the soul. Every piece passes through my hands to instill my approval. I choose rich oil tanned leathers–that feel incredible to the touch–with rustic colors found in classic rural craftsmanship. I see this minimalist design approach as a building block for an expanded product line in years to come.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been blessed with opportunities to network and build connections with many creatives in Los Angeles. I’ve developed great friendships and business relations over the last year. While I’ve had many positive experiences, I have also had low points. I do not see these as moments of good luck or bad luck but simply my journey being guided along a path.
