Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Myung.
Hi Angie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We began in 2003 from our studio apartment in SF across from Dolores Park. We wanted to throw an art show and a party showing some of our artist friends’ work so we made vinyl wallets with their artwork and they completely sold out that night. We walked home so happy and excited. So we did another series and another.
We moved down to LA in 2004 and decided to focus on Poketo, What we started as a side hobby became what it is today. We now make everything from stationery, housewares, accessories, and more. I can’t believe it’s been 18 years since we began, it doesn’t seem that long ago.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any small business will tell you that the road was never smooth. Having a 100% independent and small business is never easy but it’s gratifying to see people loving products that you put your heart and sweat into making. Owning two shops, you see their immediate reactions and we can move fast and nimble without having answer to anyone.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Poketo?
Poketo is a lifestyle brand and retailer. We design and produce all kinds of stationery, housewares, accessories, and more. I’m one of the founders along with my husband, Ted Vadakan, and as a CCO, I oversee everything from product curation to production of our branded wares.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
In my free time, I love reading, cooking new recipes, and totally addicted to NYT Crossword puzzles. 🙂
