Today we’d like to introduce you to Lidya Angelika.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Music has always been the biggest part of my life, my dad was a Guitar Player/Producer and my mom is a singer. Growing up, I was ‘in and out’ studios a lot, for my mom recording sessions or meeting my dad because he was always working, worked in different studios in a day so yeah, that was my childhood.
Drum was my first instrument as I’ve always admired Female Drummers, those metal things are heavy. My Mom insisted that I took piano lessons as she said, “you need to know the foundation of music & chords” and so I took Drums and Piano lesson.Sometimes in a day, I’d have two lessons Drums and Piano, back to back my fingers were ‘cramping’.
Funny thing is Guitar was just for fun so I never really had Guitar lessons but it becomes my main instrument.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
To Pursue your dream is definitely exciting but It wasn’t always easy especially when you are a ‘Girl’ Electric Guitar player , Maybe its because Music Business is a ‘Mans’ world so as a ‘women’ you are being ‘judge and criticized more , not that its a bad thing as it can be a character builder and actually make you a better player ,you just have to have a Thick Skin and not take it personally . Just don’t lose your heart and passion , as hard as it is sometimes there’s always something amazing out of doing the things that you love the most.Thats just my humble opinion.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I love all Genres of music, but I’m definitely a ’90s Alternative Girl ,just love that ‘Heavy driven Overdrive guitar sound like Nirvana , Foo Fighters , Nine Inch Nails and I love Listening to Instrumental Jazz and Blues too like Joe Pass , Bb Kings ,Miles Davis, so my music influences are a lot of things mix together .
I was in a couple of bands Hard – Rock to Pop, I definitely learned a ‘lot’ about music, it was a ‘Blast’. I am currently working on a new single. It’ll be something like ‘Ambient Rock’ music , so its a lot of Reverb , Overdrive/ Distortion and other experimental sounds, I also try to mix up a couple of my influences in this single. so we’ll see ! it’s Definitely different than the other songs that i’ve written. Other than that, I also played in Different Churches, it’s my way of giving back and keeping me ‘Grounded’.
What were you like growing up?
My grandma told me I was ‘handful’, always runs out and play “Marble” with the boys or race go-kart, oh the good old days..and I get bored easily so I think that’s why my mom signed me up for different instruments lessons and Ballet! (Omg) so I can find what I’m really passionate with, definitely not ‘Ballet’ though, I wasn’t graceful enough as my ballet teacher once told my mom.
Writing and Playing music has always been an escape for me. So my songs is a representation of how I feel or what goes through my mind at a moment in time, I thank God for this gift, and try not to take it for granted as I’m not sure where I’ll be without it.
