Meet Angela Montano of ReThink Prayer in Westchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Montano.

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating from college, I was a television news reporter. I worked for a small ABC affiliate in South Carolina, and following that, for PBS. During this time working in television news, I began to experience a calling from deep inside.

It is difficult to describe, but I felt a pull from within. I could have never imagined then that my life was to be dedicated to praying for people and sharing spiritual insights within the private practice and business I run today. While I was always spiritually interested and even inclined, reading books on visualization, and other such metaphysical practices, still, I had no idea that being a spiritual practitioner was even a job. Since that time over 20 years ago, I’ve worked with thousands of people from all over the world listening, sharing spiritual perspectives and praying.

After running my private practice seeing clients, I expanded my work, founding ReThinkPrayer.com which is an online prayer education platform. The mission of ReThink Prayer is to encourage people to do just that…to actually rethink prayer and then adopt a prayer practice!

My work at ReThink Prayer is devoted to welcoming people to a refreshing exploration of prayer. While many of us associate prayer with a specific religious orientation, prayer has existed centuries before religions formed.

As a spiritual counselor for 20 years, I have prayed with people from all walks and religions, even atheists. Over and over, I have witnessed prayer’s ability to shift heavy, burdened energy to a sense of lightness, relief and greater possibility.

Our intention at ReThink Prayer is to serve individuals in connecting to this healing power in a way that’s right for each person.

Prayer pierces the sense of isolation so many of us live in, providing great relief, comfort, healing, and connection. When we understand how to pray for ourselves and others in a life-affirming way, all manner of good things unfold. Prayer is our first language. It is the language of love.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have encountered many challenges on my spiritual path. I have met aspects of myself that were very difficult to sit with and offer to prayer. Releasing worry, doubt and fear sound good but to actually let go and trust Divine Love is a daily challenge. On the other hand, it is a beautiful life with incredible joy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ReThink Prayer – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My time at ReThink Prayer is spent leading online classes, in person workshops and retreats. I speak to groups at various events and conferences. I work individually with clients as well.

One accomplishment I am most proud of is my course “21 Days of Prayer To Change Your Life” which is offered through DailyOM.com. The course has been highly successful and there are currently over 22 thousand students who have taken the course which anyone can join at anytime. I also love that it is offered at an affordable rate where the customer determines the pricing. It is offered at $15, $35, or $50. I am pleased by its affordability, am deeply proud of the content, as well as, grateful for positive and heartwarming feedback I have received.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
As far as what I like about Los Angeles…I love the people of Los Angeles. I have met so many deeply sincere, earnest, creative interesting people here. It really is a city where East meets West. I love the conversations easily accessible here about human consciousness, transformation, and what it means to live with an open mind and heart.

If I had to say what I dislike… I guess I could do with a little less concrete. I love the idea of Los Angeles becoming an urban botanical garden.
