Meet Angela Evans of Frederick K. C. Price III Christian Schools

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Evans.

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Thirty-two years ago, I took my parents, Drs. Frederick and Betty Price, to lunch. I told them that it was simply time for our Church, Crenshaw Christian Center, to establish a school, a learning institution where children could be educated in a Christian environment. I then told them that the school should be named in memory of their first-born son and my older brother, Frederick K. C. Price III. Subsequently, Frederick K. C. Price III Christian Schools was born and the rest is history.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not all been a smooth road, quite a struggle in fact. Our challenges have run the gamut from attempting to secure the very best staff to garnering enough operating capital. The latter has consistently been the singularly greatest challenge, but especially recently as I endeavor to maintain affordable tuition rates while meeting the schools’ costs. In spite of these challenges, however, we have the best staff and our students are competitive and doing quite well.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Frederick K. C. Price III Christian Schools story. Tell us more about the business.
Frederick K.C. Price III Christian Schools is a private, Christian, college-preparatory preschool, elementary, middle, and high school. It was among the first K-12 private, Christian, college preparatory schools founded by people of color in this nation. Throughout its existence, it has continued to serve in the spirit of excellence established by the Christian values upon which it was founded. It has successfully educated over 10,000 students from preschool through 12th grades in the South Los Angeles area; maintains a 100% high school graduation rate since 1996; maintains a 98% acceptance rate to 4-year colleges/universities for its graduates; has received over $900,000 in college scholarships for its graduates; has had over 10% of its alumni return to Price as teachers, coaches, mentors, and parents; and maintains accreditation from both the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). We have graduated young men and women in every walk of life, including World-class Clergy, Entrepreneurs, Doctors, Lawyers, Professional Athletes, Administrators, Teachers/Educators, Musicians, Artists, Accountants —just all around outstanding citizens.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Well, integrating technology wherever possible will become an even more integral part of the educational and academic experience. With that, if we are able to garner sufficient finances to continue operating at the high level we’ve grown accustomed to, our hope would be to continue to upgrade our technology. Doing so would allow us to offer the highest learning environment for our students.

What a blessing this school has been and continues to be in South Los Angeles. It is exciting to read how it has continued to produce quality students and citizens over 30 years. This is an awesome testimony and all it takes is much needed resources for its successful future. Thank you for sharing Mrs. Evans . . .
