Meet Angel Brinks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Brinks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My family didn’t have much growing up, but we made it work. I always had hand-me-down clothes from my older sister. My grandmother lived with my family and I recall, as a young girl, watching her sew. I used to assist by cutting up materials and putting them together. As I got a little older, I was enrolled in Performing Arts – drama classes, choir, and the dance team. My love for stage wardrobe became an obsession! As soon as I got my first job I started purchasing vintage clothes and materials. I, then, started making clothes for myself and would wear it while I was out and about. People would ask me where I got my clothing and would offer me money to make them the same pieces. The rest is history!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been everything BUT easy. They say if most businesses make it past 2-3 years then they’re in for the long haul! The first year is tough. You make a lot of expensive mistakes. Designing and owning a business are completely different and requires tremendous effort to maintain.  For my company, my clothing isn’t  the typical day-to-day wear. I’m mostly known for special occasion pieces and special occasions come with deadlines. A lot of clients wait last minute, or don’t plan ahead, which forces the team to work miracles. While the demands can be taxing, I am a people pleaser. I always have been. I strive to provide the best customer service and customer experience. Without clients and customers, I would not be in business so I am extremely grateful.

Angel Brinks Fashion – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Although I now carry factory made items ( my boutique collection), I’m known for custom sizing and limited specialty pieces. Majority of the items are made in-house. I have a team of cutters and sewers who are creating pieces by hand.  Since the garments are being made per order, you have the ability to have us alter the pieces to fit YOU. I am also known for my over the top looks! The kind where you walk in the room and steal the spotlight. I want my clients to create what we call “moments”, similar to what celebrities do. I want my women to feel and look their best and leave long lasting impressions every time they walk in the room!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Wow, I have so many. From being a reputable company to dressing a lot of celebrities. Many people look to celebrities to set trends. As a designer and boutique owner, I am able to set the trends and be accessible to not just celebrities, but to everyone. I recently shot my very own TV special on WeTV that aired July 25th. That was a huge moment for me because there aren’t too many people who have that opportunity to showcase their clothing and life on television. I executive produced the show, which was also a very proud moment for me!
