Meet AnDy Wu of ADWmusicland in Westchester / Taipei

Today we’d like to introduce you to AnDy Wu.

AnDy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a creative editor and filmmaker born and raised in Taiwan. In 2018, I came to Los Angeles to study MFA in Film Production and my journey in Hollywood began. I started my audiovisual editing content since 2013, built my first YouTube channel “AnDyWuMUSICLAND” to showcase my Mashups and Remixes along with video editing. I was majored in Accounting in undergrad and had never thought of making YouTube videos would do any difference toward my career. However, the subscribers and the views started to grow wildly and some of my videos had grabbed attention from multiple social media platforms, the journalists, and even the celebrities themselves like Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and James Corden. Soon after, I got the chance to work with some LA-based companies (CBS, Apple Music, LA made Creative) on significant projects like Grammys ad, opening video for YouTube Brandcast, and Google Engage, remotely (yeah, long before the pandemic).

When I was bombarded by the recognition and the job opportunities I’ve got, I started to rethink my career path, try to find out what people see in my works and how can I improve to be more capable. Finally, I found my unique storytelling woven between my editing and the strong desire to work with people, decided to master my skills by getting a master’s degree in film school. And now here I am in the beautiful city and able to work with a bunch of talented people on set, in production and post-production.

I’ve written and directed two shorts in LA, which had received numerous awards and selected by the festivals worldwide, and worked on a lot of sets as Script Supervisor, Sound Mixer, and Sound-mixing or Editing in post-production. Due to the pandemic, I’m currently staying in my hometown, Taiwan, but I still work on projects remotely and will be back in 2021.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not an easy path when I changed major, moved to another country with self-doubt, and all alone. People often watched my videos and ask, “Are you a DJ? A music producer?” and I wasn’t able to explain it clearly since I pretty much learned everything by myself without any kind of professional training at the time. Also, working on a YouTube channel that is consists of the copyrighted material is hard. The copyright owners have the right to block my videos and of course, I don’t get to monetize everything I made. The channel I have right now is actually my third one. Still, nothing would stop my passion to create something meaningful and beautiful and I must keep going.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ADWmusicland – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
ADWmusicland is a post-production business that helps the client to make the creative choice and innovative trending creation on top of basic video-editing and sound-mixing. We will consider your need, the purpose, and the resource to customize the video you imagine. It could be a simple mashup of 2 popular songs, a discography showcase of an artist, a personal video collection, a portfolio reel, or unique sound design and montage to your film. The range is wide and so does the imagination.

Here’s an example that I made for James Corden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-GcqO86OBg

I was honored to edit a megamix of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke from 2015-2016 and continued to work with CBS and Apple Music on the advertisement for “Carpool Karaoke Spinoff” that aired during Grammys in 2017. What I did was let the visual and the music flow smoothly, be inclusive, and still highlight the best of the series, and of course, keep the punchline and make it highly entertaining.

If it still sounds abstract to you, check out my YouTube channel and Vimeo.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future goal is to work with mainstream film companies and eventually get to make a difference with my unique voice. The world is fragile at the moment and I believe we all need much more comfort and kindness. I will do my best to improve my skills by collaborating with more people and finally make the world slightly better with my works.
