Meet Andriy Pavlyuk of andrey_tattoos in eagle rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andriy Pavlyuk.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I believe that everybody has their own way of doing whatever it may be. It is hard and takes courage to admit mistakes and keep on learning and pushing through, especially when it comes to art or any other creative activity (which I think can be anything). But, I also believe I am right, and open-mindedness, pace, hard work, with faith that success waits somewhere further will take anyone to the place they should be at.

I was just recently thinking on when did it actually start, and apparently, it started long before I moved to the USA. When I was little, I was asked to draw and send my drawings to my grandmother because I barely ever saw her. Then I learnt to express myself through drawing. So after quitting my university and moving to California, I had to make the decision and take my passion as serious as possible.

At a certain point of my life, my path took me to this country, doing whatever job was out there for an 18 years old kid with a pretty strong accent and not finished IBA degree… I figured out that I would better start fixing my life the sooner, the better. So I went straight to Target and got myself pencils and an album to begin drawing again but with a serious intention to become somewhat good or at least alright.

I enjoyed the process of learning so much that in two years I was already creating some alright designs, and actively practicing tattooing in my bedroom first on fruit and pigskin than on myself, specifically my lap. The first tattoo I did was a design of a rose I have drawn some time before, so here I am, after work, sitting in the room tattooing that banana and accidentally my sight fell upon that rose design, and the decision was made.

The thought that ran through my mind was literally; “what else would I wait for!?” I just put the stencil on my lap and start my first tattoo… Did hurt a lot, took twice as much time as it should`ve, but, I did not mess it up and moreover made a quite good looking tattoo, good enough to get my friends to ask for a piece. So after I did all my learning that first tattoo was kind of an investment.

A risky one but after like nine hours of uncomfortable, intuitive and painful self-tattooing it all was worth it. Ever since then, it is just continuous curiosity and desire to create more fresh, original designs for my clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
TIME, Time was and is the greatest obstacle, actually lack of it. How hard it is to keep on pushing through your path when you have to work a couple of jobs to effort bills and invest into what you are doing. Besides going through all other personal hardships. Still, I wish I had a couple of extra hours every day.

Challenging is also finding people who are open to different creativity. I mean, unfortunately, people mostly want what they have seen already. So an open minded person ready to give trust in a new vision is a rare find. I want to thank every my client and all those people who were and are seeking new and fresh.

andrey_tattoos – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I create Illustration tattoos with a lot of dot work involved. Dots, fine lines, and vibrant colors look extremely appealing, clean and lasts very well with proper care and religious sunscreen application. I find it interesting to collaborate with my clients to create a unique tattoo based on the concept they desire.

My process of creating design is somewhat intuitive, but the most important aspects for me are the proportions and balance of the details and lines I put into the designs. I always try to understand my clients as good as I can and put the energy and/or emotions they are sharing with me into the design I create for them.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is harmony/balance of abundance and understanding which kind of go together by default but requires really hard work in different fields of my life to gain and maintain this balance. I feel like there still is so much work to do ahead, but it doesn`t bother me but makes me feel grateful, which makes me believe that I am getting closer to my success.
