Meet Andrew Namminga of ANDesign Lab in Newport Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Namminga.

Andrew, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been a hands on type of guy. I really do believe that the more hands on you are on a project, the more of a hand up you’ll have on the competition.

When I was in high school I was into motorcycles and that hobby turned into opening up a shop with some buddies. It wasn’t until then did I really believe I could do this for general inquiries, projects related outside the realms of engines. I then officially went to school for Mechanical Engineering and eventually for a second B.A. in Industrial Design.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a long road. And it’s not going to be easier.

But those restless nights have been worth it.

ANDesign Lab – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What doesn’t an ID do is the better question!!! Me, personally, I run my own consultancy with roughly 30 employees. Half of my team is headquarted in Newport Beach, CA and the other half in Shenzhen, China. We particularly design in our U.S. studio.

I’ve done my time in the trenches so I can rightfully oversee all my projects. Which is what I am most proud of; that I oversee all aspects of my business. My background in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering take my design conceptualizations from the realm-of-ideas into tangible products. Not many people have that capability.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Buying a house.
