Meet Andrew Kim of Healthy Spot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Kim.

Andrew, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Healthy Spot was created in response to the massive pet food recall of 2007 to elevate the standard of care and inspire healthy pet lifestyles. Mark and I started the business out of passion to provide only the best for our best friends through our products and services.

We opened the doors to our first location in 2008 with 4 team members and have now grown to 8 locations (9th coming soon in DTLA) and an organization of over 200 passionate people who care.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road to success is smooth. We view our struggles as our opportunities to learn, grow and continue to become better over time. Over the last 9 years, we have gone through so many phases and the overcoming the obstacles and struggles have helped us become the organization we are today.

We really love the process and not focused solely on the results. As we continue to grow, we anticipate that there will be continued challenges ahead and we will hustle just as hard to continue to become better in fulfilling our mission.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Healthy Spot is the healthy pet lifestyle brand for the modern pet parent. We focus on providing the highest quality products, services, and experiences to our clients for their fur babies. As a result, we have really developed to be the leader for pet nutrition and services in Southern California. It’s what we do.

Though we have been fortunate to have many successes over the years, we are most proud that we have become a change agent in the community. From the individual clients that we have been able to help dramatically in the health and wellness of their pets, to the hundreds of pets we have been able to help place into loving forever homes or the over $300K we have raised for our charitable community partners, we are not just a pet store. We are proud to be a business that does well by doing good.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an outgoing kid that liked to connect with new people and make friends. As a result, I was fortunate to be selected to leadership roles with every club, organization, and group I was a part of. I liked serving the needs of people and building effective teams.

I’ve also always been an animal person and curious about animal life. I grew up with my dogs Koko and Magic and took an interest in many other animals birds, large cats, and other more exotic animals.

I’m blessed to be able to be in a position that lends to both of my childhood personality and interest.
