Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Caster.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrew. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been an ophthalmologist (an eye surgeon) since 1984. When laser vision correction was becoming a reality, in the mid-1990s, I was very excited about the possibility of correcting a person’s eyes so he or she could see well without needing glasses or contact lenses. As a glasses and contact lens wearer myself, while I was happy to be able to see using them, I felt life would be much nicer to see without needing these visual crutches. So I decided to dedicate myself and our team to Lasik laser vision correction.
Since 1996, the Caster Eye Center has performed over 30,000 treatments to eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses. We correct vision hampered by nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia and presbyopia), and astigmatism.
My book, Lasik: The Eye Laser Miracle, was first published in 1996. It is now in its fifth edition, published by Random House Books. It is written to provide patients with the information that is needed to understand and make an informed decision regarding Lasik.
In 1999, Los Angeles Magazine selected me as the “Best Lasik Surgeon” its annual ” Best Of LA” issue.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The public perception of Lasik has been very positive but at times also very negative. Discounted laser centers, run by non-doctors, have often provided inadequate or improper Lasik treatment, which has resulted over the years in some negative opinions about Lasik as a whole, rather than just negative opinions about these deeply discounted laser centers that really do not have patient care as their first priority. Fortunately, these deeply discounted laser centers have mostly gone out of business, and the quality of Lasik performed has therefore significantly improved. Advances in technology have also contributed to making Lasik even safer, easier, and more accurate.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Caster Eye Center story. Tell us more about the business.
The Caster Eye Center specializes exclusively in Lasik laser vision correction. We devote all of our energy and focus into this one subspecialty. Our doctor is one of the most experienced Lasik doctors in the United States. Our staff is extremely experienced in Lasik: each of our technical specialists has been with Dr. Caster for at least 15 years. We are known for our high-quality Lasik treatments.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
In 1996, CBS News in Los Angeles was looking to do a story about the new Lasik treatment. Kyle Kraska, the well-respected news anchor, wanted to create an informative piece in which he was the patient. Kyle selected Dr. Caster to perform his Lasik. He had an amazing experience and achieved amazing vision, which was well-documented in his story. CBS News ran the story repeatedly on the local news, which generated a tremendous interest by patients.
