Today we’d like to introduce you to Andres Haase.
Andres, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I realized I was an artist at a young age. I was always drawing in the car, at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. I wasn’t the most focused individual but I was social. School was not for learning, just chilling and getting high. I made some poor choices along the way that made me become homeless drug addict. I knew I had to become a better person, especially for my daughter. I was ready to take on the responsibility of putting permanent artwork on people at age 25. As I taught myself to tattoo, I had the amazing support of my current wife Rachel and was able to become a professional tattoo artist in a few years. Since then, I have worked at a few shops in Southern California (Orange County). I currently work at Cali Culture Tattoo in Anaheim, CA. just a few minutes from Disneyland. The crew I work with is solid and I have been with them for three years now.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always challenges and struggles. The tattoo industry is constantly changing. From equipment to trends it’s always an uphill battle. Some of the worst things that go on is the sale of knock off equipment and the buyers usually are some untrained “artist” doing not only poor tattoos but endangering people’s health. There’s always up and downs like any business.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am currently working and have been for three years at Cali Culture Tattoo in Anaheim. I specialize in many styles of tattoo art. I guess my favorite is anything cartoony. I am proud of myself for always remembering what is important, being my own boss is difficult but very rewarding. It truly puts a smile on my face and heart when I see how happy a client is with their artwork/tattoo.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
This industry is in constant change. I think we will see better regulations and maybe even some serious laws put into place.
