Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Emery.
Andre, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I had humble beginnings with both parents emigrating from Jamaica. At a young age, I was enamored with style and fashion. I view fashion as a stylish form of self-expression. My unique perspective originates from life experiences of struggle and success.
The Andre Emery clothing brand is for the brave fashion connoisseur that’s on an alternative path with an abrasive and arrogant personal style. My drive and passion romantically furnishes the American spirit. I am now based in LA and felt the need to step out of my comfort zone and spread my wings. From East to West, my travels and journeys are always changing and evolving. The underlying need to define yourself is fully expressed in my collections. My previous collections are inspired by a lot of nature. While in Los Angeles, we’re surrounded by beaches, palm trees, beautiful architecture, and the LA lifestyle.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My 1st couple of months being in LA was kind of rough around the edges. I had to work a couple of retail jobs to get my foot in the door. My favorite out of all was working at Wildstyle LA, a really dope clothing store on Melrose. I’ve met a lot of celebrities there. I was the head stylist at the time. I met all kinds of celebrities there like Chris Brown, Randy Jackson, Rihanna, Justin Beiber, and the list goes on. The best part about that experience was building an organic relationship with these people like a real friend. I loved it!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Andre Emery offers collections that’s composed of unique materials, exclusively handcrafted in the USA. This is where a team of about five seamstresses are undividedly dedicated to polishing precious one-of-a-kind garments, even myself. I love to present a unique and exclusive line for men and women that targets a sophisticated young clientele who dares to venture into unique experiences. The designs of the current collection express empowerment and enrichment.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I’ve probably would’ve started off with cool merch 1st. So I could have gifted a lot to friends, celebrities, and family. Just to get the name out there. Instead, I started with expensive fabric and made expensive garments. That burned a hole through my pockets a lot. I sat on a lot of designs for a long time. I definitely learned from that!
