Today we’d like to introduce you to And I Made Him Watch
Hi And I Made Him Watch, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I, Dani, have always been a weird movie type of person. I’ve always had a weak spot for zombie movies and b-horror. It was a bit of a hobby of mine to try and find the strangest movie I could find and watch it. I kind of fell out of it for awhile and then COVID happened and I suddenly had a lot more free time and didn’t know what to do with it. So I began to watch weird movies again. I would watch them and type up this cruddy little synopsis about each movie I watched and share it with friends. I would sometimes watch them with my friend Phil and we would just have a great time laughing and dissecting these off-hand marvels. At some point, I thought this would be great to share with other people. I did ask him first if he thought we could do a podcast but he’s not really a podcast person. But life continues and we fell off the ritual of watching movies together for awhile and that’s when Troy comes in. All this happened before Troy even thought about going to school for cinematography. As I watched him go through that experience, and saw how much the movies and the whole process meant to him, the idea for the podcast came back to me. So after he graduated, I asked him what he thought about the idea and I think I showed him the synopses that I wrote and he was all for it. That’s when our podcast, And I Made Him Watch, was born. I would pick a movie each week that Troy had never seen, and we would both watch it and give our review of it. Our first episode was March 3rd, 2024, and we’ve been hard at work ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a steep learning curve when it comes to recording a podcast. We don’t have the best equipment so making that work for us has been difficult. For example, we’re currently recording in our car to get the best sound quality possible for our listeners. Of course, life happens. We’ve been sick, Dani injured her neck, and traveling has taken time from the podcast, but we always get back to it as soon as we can.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We, Dani and Troy, are most well known for our podcast, And I Made Him Watch. Each week, we watch a weird or scary b-movie, and critique/dissect the film on our podcast. Us being married creates a strong dynamic where we can work well together. We have a very strong bond that makes it easy for us to be comfortable with each other and that works out really well for us. Some of the films we review have been slowly forgotten about, and we’re proud to bring some of these films back to life.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Consistency. We aren’t the biggest podcast around. Our listener numbers have been pretty steady in the low teens, but that doesn’t deter us from continuing to do what we love. We feel that if you truly love to do something, you’ll continue to do it.
