Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Vega.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At the age of 18 years old, I started my career writing for the biggest national newspaper in Spain, the ABC. For many years I interviewed inspiring individuals like Steve Jobs and Hollywood celebrities as a journalist.
Then I designed and patented baby products which then were sold worldwide with my brand MamaDoo Kids.
And now, my mission is simple: make parenting peaceful and fun. No matter how challenging the situation.
Before becoming a Parenting Coach: When my son was little, my friends used to ask me for parenting advice because I had become obsessed with child psychology and brain development. I became great at giving advice but not always so great at living it.
I knew all the theory but I couldn´t put it into practice.
One day I realized I needed help and found the real solution and (I) learned a lot about what it takes to start asking for the kind of life I deserve.
It’s a little silly, but I’ve been called “The Guru Who Gets You to the Most Peaceful and Fun Family Fast” more than once. That’s probably because I’ve been around a long time and have helped a lot of people.
Everything I do as a parent (like guiding, motivating, or disciplining my son) is FUN. Anything that isn’t fun I stop and become present!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My struggles have been mostly personal. Growing up, my mom lived with severe schizophrenia and then as a teenager, I had two different stepmoms. That was not easy. So I developed an eating disorder.
Because of this, as an adult, I became a Vice President in NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in the San Fernando Valley where I helped hundreds of families so they could stop suffering like my family had.
When I had my son 15 years ago, I struggled as a mom. I now know why. I was often confronted with images of idealized motherhood.
This left me feeling guilty or inadequate when I failed to live up to these unrealistic standards. Many of us parents can find ourselves so stressed out that we end up yelling, threatening, and punishing and feel that there´s something very wrong with us.
A huge source of this stress for modern parents is that our current environment differs radically from the environment of our ancestors, in which over 90 % of our evolution took place. In contrast to our modern idea of the nuclear family – parents and children living separately under one roof – communal living was the norm.
Mothers had help from others to care for their young. An average of 15 people! Children were cared for and given food not only by mothers but also by other individuals.
Our Western expectation that mothers should care exclusively for children without other help is simply not consistent with our evolutionary history and adaptation.
When the physical and emotional demands of parenting exceed our limits, we may feel stressed, exhausted, inadequate, depressed, or self-critical.
In modern Western culture, we put a high premium on doing as much as possible and acknowledging our limits can be perceived as a weakness.
I’ve since then come a long way from that to creating a method helping Overwhelmed Parents take the dream of permanent peace in their family and turning it into reality. With my signature method, Family with Superpowers Academy, I hope to transform families around the globe.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
It’s a little silly, but I’ve been called “The Guru Who Gets You to the Most Peaceful and Fun Family Fast” more than once. That’s probably because I’ve been around a long time and have helped a lot of people.
I launched my signature method Family with Superpowers Academy to help other parents, no matter how challenging the situation, through the option of a high-level intimate 1-on-1 Parenting Coaching Program with me.(´)
PARENTS WITH SUPERPOWERS:
Know how to MASTER the mental rollercoaster of difficult parenting…
Know how to tame their own mind…
Know an easier way to discipline their challenging children…
Have an EDGE that gives them the mindset to think and act with MORE CONFIDENCE!
Why this Coaching?
Did you know that:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 15% of moms rated their stress as a 10. (American Psychological Association)
And that:
Child behavior problems have a direct link to parents’ levels of stress. (National Institutes of Health)
Because I use a combination of Mindful Parenting, Parenting Research from Yale, and Neurocoaching.
With Mindful Parenting, which is used in clinical settings with parents with 100% success, I help parents deal with the stress of parenting, how to deal with burnout, defiance, self-criticism, etc.
It is mostly based on the famous Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program by scientist Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts.
Why is PARENTING STRESS so important?
Because all children, even babies, are negatively affected by their parents’ stress. And even when parents try to fake it!
Children, including infants, are sensitive to these nonverbal cues:
The emotional tone of our voice.
Our eye contact.
Our body language.
Physical touch.
And with what I learned at Yale I get my client´s children to WANT TO LISTEN without yelling or punishment by using simple tools that I call Superpowers that actually work.
What are your plans for the future?
I´m working on an online version of my program in February of 2023, which will include self-study and group coaching, so it reaches more people and it gets to be more affordable that way.
I also plan to create a Mindfulness program for teenagers online and write a book to guide parents.
