Meet Ana Golja of Drama Drama in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Golja.

Ana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started dancing when I was about five years old. At age nine, with two parents working full time, I needed to keep busy during spring break, so they sent me to this camp that had a dance program and an acting program, of which both courses were mandatory. From there, the director of the camp said I should pursue acting seriously — I thought it was incredibly boring, but an agent had offered to represent me (after seeing me at a talent showcase/competition), so I figured I’d try it out. The first audition I had was for a show called 1-800 missing, and I happened to book it! My first day on set, I fell in love with the experience and the art. I’ve been hooked ever since and haven’t stopped working.

I am currently promoting my new project, Drama Drama, a coming-of-age teen musical dramedy. I play London, a preppy cheerleading captain that accidentally becomes part of a girl band. In anticipation of the movie’s release, we just launched a super fun music video for “Saturday Night” that can be watched on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b8CcEDCw9Q&feature=youtu.be.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like with anything in life, there are highs and lows. Nothing will ever be “perfect.” I’ve been fortunate enough to have many highs and fortunate enough to be surrounded by love and support during the lows. But regardless of good or bad, I’ve grown every step of the way which has, in turn, helped my art as well. Grateful for all of it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actress/producer and singer/songwriter. I am likely most known for my work as “Zoe” on Degrassi Next Class on Netflix. I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic. I take great pride in the fact that I always show up to set memorized and ready to play (aka act!).

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my many favorite childhood memories was watching Shirley Temple movies with my family. Shirley was what initially sparked the creative energy in me as a kid. I would go to the bathtub and try to recreate the tap sounds from her films. I became obsessed! That’s when my parents realized that I had a knack for performing and they put me into dance.
