Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Peltier.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Amy Peltier Interior Design and Home is a multi-level interior design firm. We specialize in designing and managing full renovations and additions, but also relish in the opportunity to design a single room. I started this business in my dining room while my oldest son was at pre-school and took naps. Almost ten years later, I now have a retail studio located in the heart of South Pasadena and a staff of 6 plus with offices on both the east and west coast. I’d definitely say the journey has been full of hard work and ups and downs, but also the most rewarding experience. We’ve built our reputation and business over the years in the best way possible by creating relationships within the industry and happy customers. We are not an overnight success, but rather a team of energetic people who set goals, brainstorm and work together to push ourselves year after year.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every business owner encounters struggles, it just comes with the territory. In fact, I believe the entrepreneurs who in some way, enjoy these challenges are the ones who succeed the most. The biggest struggle I’ve overcome is to figure out HOW to be a business owner instead of a designer first. When I started out, my goal was to produce beautiful designs and what I found was that I needed to learn how to RUN the business. I feel today that I am equally as good an entrepreneur as I am at designing, and that has allowed us to climb higher and higher each year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Amy Peltier Interior Design & Home story. Tell us more about the business.
We offer high-end residential interior design services helping homeowners with everything from architectural finish selections for their new home to furnishing their spaces, and we are known for our Signature Design Process which allows our clients to enjoy the fun parts while we take care of the rest.
We’ve been featured in the LA Times, on the cover of California Homes Magazine and most recently featured in HGTV Magazine as well as being awarded numerous awards over the years. With offices located on both the east and west coast, our style is preppy with a dose of California casual- perfect for clients with busy lifestyles and families. We feel that a family can live an active lifestyle but still have a beautiful home, and it’s the marriage of those two ideas that is at the heart of our designs.
Of course, I’m most proud of our success over the years and I define that by our dozens of happy clients that we’ve worked with.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Big furniture stores seem to be disappearing and designers are constantly fighting with online e-commerce sites. I have mixed emotions about that, but I can’t imagine they will disappear completely with furniture being sold mostly online. People still need to see, touch, and feel the product to make an educated purchase. Even if they say “oh well, I’ll just return this if I don’t like it” it’s a headache and an extra item added to their to-do list if they make the wrong purchase. Designers will become more important than ever in helping clients stay focused and make smart purchases and decisions, as they should since we are now spending SO much time in our homes. I also think this ‘time at home’ is making homeowners realize how important it is to love your space, especially when you are now living and working from it all the time.
