Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Lyndon.
Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started acting when I was 10 years old in camp plays, and as soon as I turned 16, I jumped on a train to NYC to study at The Neighborhood Playhouse. When I was 17, I went to England to train in Shakespeare at The London Academy Of Music and Dramatic Arts and then went on to earn my BFA from Syracuse University. Right after graduation, I moved out to Los Angeles and studied with great teachers like; Stella Adler, Harry Mastrogeorge, Al Ruscio and Arlene Golonka. Since I loved comedy, I worked my Improvisation at The Groundlings, ABC on the Lot and Stand Up at The Comedy Store.
What I soon came to realize, it didn’t matter how much I trained and how great I was as an actor – if I didn’t know how to book a job. Booking truly is a separate beast. So I started creating my own method of booking. And when my friend asked me to coach her daughter for a huge studio film, I was hesitant because I had never coached before. She just wanted me to do for her what I had done for myself. Well, she booked it and “The Lyndon Technique: The 15 Guideline Map To Booking” was born.
Since 1993, The Lyndon Technique has turned out 47 Series Regulars, an Emmy Winner, and an Imagen Award Winner and has helped 1000’s of actors around the globe book acting jobs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road when you’re introducing something new. I had to constantly prove myself by leading by example. Staying consistent and strong in my approach was a huge factor. Sticking with my people every step of the way until they saw results proved to be critical. It was only until my students were consistently booking the bigger jobs that people started taking my Technique seriously.
Please tell us about The Lyndon Technique.
The Lyndon Technique dispels the myths of the audition process and provides the actor with an effective, straightforward approach to nailing their auditions and booking work as an actor. It helps actors get rid of the nerves in the room, get out of the stress of memorizing lines, always know what they’re doing, learn how to break down a script properly, do the best homework possible, get out of call back hell and get into the 1% ratio of working actors. It’s the missing piece to their puzzle.
I am proud to be a part of their success – from booking their first job to acing a career-making opportunity. It gives me great joy to see the hope restored in their heart and the light in their eyes when they finally have something that helps them with their dreams.
I believe what sets me apart from the others is that I had over 100 IMDB credits, I’m a former Personal Manager and a Multi-Award Winning Director, Writer and Producer. I understand what they are going through because I am in the rooms with them and have been on the other side of the camera as well.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was a kid, my uncle Gene Kirkwood won the Academy Award for “Rocky.” Every year he would give a scholarship to the best actor in the school. My mother would go up to the podium, give a speech and hand out the award. I was so excited that people knew that my uncle had achieved greatness and would pay it forward to aspiring actors.
