Meet Amy Chapman of Voice Lab LA in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Chapman.

Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a vocal therapist and singing voice specialist which means I’m a licensed and board-certified Speech & Language Pathologist who has dedicated my career to helping professionals improve and optimize their voice.

I started as a singer and performer since I was a child, but always wanted to know more about how the voice was created. I went back to school for speech pathology and combined my background of singing with a scientific knowledge of health and physiology to help my clients achieve optimal results.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not easy getting here. Most of my professors said I would never be able to specialize in just voice and I’d have to do other things on the side to supplement my career. I also had a mentor who told me that I shouldn’t get married or have kids or a family because I wouldn’t be able to do it all so I just had to pick. By the way, I have a husband and a baby and I’m doing just fine!

I have helped numerous singers maintain the health of their voice on tour, increase their vocal range, perfect their recording performances, and prevent debilitating vocal injury as well as rehabilitate an injury.

I have also created a unique vocal massage and therapy program, which has gained national recognition for helping singers release muscle tension and significantly improve their singing. If you are a singer and haven’t tried my voice massage, it’s a must!

Please tell us about Voice Lab LA.
I feel that what sets me apart from other great voice teachers is my background in voice medicine, science, and health. It really directs the way I teach my singers.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. I believe that everything happens for a reason, even if there are times where you struggle. It’s what makes you who you are today.
